Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

The next step after ACT

After cuts and project slash the company will be split into two.

1). Murthy will run what is like AMD the design/product side. He is an outsider with no attachment to using TMG and could just as likely take his products to any foundry offering faster TTM. He could care less if it is dense but low yielding or bigger. All that matters to him is get the product out and does it sell on schedule.

2). Bean counter gets the boat anchor with big fabs huge R&D and capital intensive, the Global Foundry side. Still need big cuts, restructure, and complete cultural change to compete against the foundrys for Murthy's products. Can they do it ?

The path for Intel is the same as what IBM, AMD and every other IDM has done.

So sad as a visionary 10 years ago could have fixed it, or even five yeRa ago, but too late now.

Data center has a a few years before ARM and the business in China eclipse AWS and Azure, ARm will win China.

IoT is DOA, a business with no standards that intel controls it can't compete.

TMG as foundry is laughable, if their technology was so good Nvidia, Qualcomm or even Apple would take a look. Fact of the matter it is easier, faster and now far cheaper to is TSMC with their recent price cuts. TMG operational philosophy and HC need radical changes and their current technology offerings are uncompetitive today of the world

Memory, seriously, Andy must be rolling in his grave with what BK has done to his once great company.

So sad to see what intel has become but could have been, but continue la to be squandered.

3 way split make sense. but in this manner?

Data center= Intel,

Foundary=privately held,

Things=new stock that investors are salivating

because surely we can't expect consumers to associate Intel's name with something exciting and innovative, right?

INTC is associated with big, expensive, arrogant. old, is it just me does grush photo op look wierd, everybody wear suits !!

It would be 3 : datacenter , "things", foundry. Imagine the stock value if they were independent. The shareholders/board probably salivating already.

Datacenter and "things" split would be similar to how HP split. mooorthi will be brutal with the "things" group. watch out. He will give new meaning to dog-eat-dog.

Holy Shmoly! I think you just predicted the future. And I want to be on the non-TMG side.

There are no real men at the top so it is very appropriate no fabs any more, LOL

What CEO does drones, worries about minorities and game shows when his company is in the biggest crisis of its history.

CRB and PSO were above that but again look at their background versus the current big swinging ****

Real men have fabs, Fat Indians don't

But ... but ... "real men have fabs." Does this somehow mean the Design house is no longer "real men"?

Last I checked server, laptop, tablet, phone, IoT, all care about power, performance, area and cost, PPAC. Intel with 60% GM and no competion got fat and lazy.

Why would it surprise anyone that phone, tablet, modem or any none x86 product is garbage when benchmarked against the dog eat dog world?

And why wouldn't a x86 designed in a foundry not be more competitive. I am sure that is a very senior discussion, but to go outside would be admission of TMG absolute failure

Intel process is so optimized for CPU such that it is detrimental for low power applications. Intel Design rules are also very restictive --harder for analog design.

ICF once did a benchmark for intel process vs tsmc foundary process. For the same performance, intel process is 20% higher power and 20% larger than foundary. That is at 14 nm. Probably worst at 10 and 7 nm.

If Apple can do product in Samsung and TSMC I doubt Murthy who comes from an agnostic design house would accept Intel design manager BS.

BTW why can't intel get anyone to design in their process. It is very restrictive, go to foundry they will make it easy no touch what is easier and faster and takes less people?

Nice idea but you forget that there's a pipeline of several products/refresh that require the marriage of design and fab...but in the 7nm node this is a real possibility
