Took VSP in 2014. I did get unemployment + education assistance.

Apply no matter what, the .gov people will probably side with you. .Gov has the power to decide, not intel.

VSP is NOT eligible for unemployment insurance, HR confirmed it since they claim "it is voluntary"

I worked in HR a few years ago and worked with somebody who had been involved in replying to unemployment claims. She said that Intel never rejected an unemployment claim.

If I were to get VSP, I certainly would apply for unemployment. That letter was pretty clear. The V in VSP is just lip service. It really was just an easier way for Intel of giving you ISP.

File for it. The determination is made by the State and the employer's OK is NOT needed.

It was mentioned at an All Hands meeting in Hillsboro that Intel would not be contesting any claims.

I would put in for it anyway and specify "staff reduction". I seriously doubt they are fighting this. Keep a copy of the letter threatening if you don't take it as evidence if a meeting is had. But just indicate you were part of layoffs.

Please dont count on that. It isn't even $1000/mo. Check California unemployment page. I dont think it can be paid for VSP accepted folks. Because in the end they will say he quit voluntarily.
