Efficiency cuts in other PEG groups

So, by now somebody should have more info on other planned cuts in PEG. We've only heard from MVE, what about Arch and DTS/DA? Those were also supposed to be high priority for efficiency/co-location cuts.

How come rest of the big tech companies in the world survive without a team like DA,,? They all use the vendor tools as delivered and are way more productive than Intel.

DAs don't create any new tools. They take purchased tools from Cadence and Synopsys and cover them with never-ending layers of scripting code to automate things in the most inefficient manner.

Good luck tweaking them on your own or speeding them up. If there was a good end-around way for me to access the tool raw at Intel, believe me, I would use it and make my own simple 2 page script.

actually it is even more convoluted than that. You have to move up or you get kicked out... The lowest grade they consider you stable at is 8, and for that you have to be a meeting jockey and not write any code. So...... that means you don't have any stable tools owners. So the code owners write difficult to understand or maintain code because they will either move on, or get the boot... either way, they won't have to support it for all that long. The new guy who comes in understandably doesn't want to support that crap and writes new stuff he/she can understand. The end point is the same though, bad overall management. Too many generals, not enough soldiers...

The same ends up being true about the overall design methodology. It is constantly changing for non-technical reasons... causeing the need for endless meetings and rework of tools. Intel really needs one org that will own the whole thing, and tell all projects to use that method. But it needs to really mean it, as it has gone half a$$ down that path at least three times while I watched.

DTS/DA are supposed to help the engineers to be more efficient. But instead they create new tools every year, forcing ppl to go through the learning curve, causing delays to projects. Why? Because they have to appear to be innovative come focal to survive. It is , again the fault of the leaders who impose stupid expectations causing ppl to do stupid things, just to keep their jobs.
