Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

The "Next Generation" is in charge at Intel now

Almost all the 50+ baby boomer crowd has left Intel or is leaving soon. The remaining few are VP's or admins. Only grey hair I saw in the building yesterday was the security guard. Hundreds of new interns are showing up for the summer. Some look as young as 16.

So the 35-49 millennial generation are clearly in charge at Intel now. Maybe not in the executive suite yet, but in the levels where it really matters. It will be interesting in 5-10 years to see how the Gen X generation treats us.

You're funny sparky. 50 years old and 25 years at Intel, when the problem is real I still get the call. Millennials are too lazy and don't know enough.

I have posted this before, but at 63 I fully well expect that when the actions are over I will be the oldest guy left on my campus.

That being said I don't mind the fact that the place is already looking a bit younger. I am only bothered by the delusion among the younger staff that they will retire with dignity when in reality the same stuff will happen to them in 10 years.

They are no more "in charge" than cattle are in charge of the farm. Rather they are fresh meat destined to meet at bolt to the head in layoff round x years from now.

OP, one correction:

Ages 35-49 is considered Gen X

Ages 20-35 are Gen Y (Or Millenials)

Millenials will not stick around a boring, unimaginative corp too long and in 10 years time Intel will remain as a server business only. It has no right of existence in any market where margins are lower than 50%

That's funny op. There is no way this company is in business in this configuration in 10 years. Look up "Kodak".

Nothing will change because the remaining people will be let go on the next round of layoffs.
