Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel HRs are not for employees they are for managers

Whatever you speak or write to them goes to your FLM/SLM immediately. You should be careful writing anything against your manager to them.

HR thinks it can bully and intimidate people - but there is a checks and balances in place.

Four years ago HR put in writing (email) that they would not comply with an ADA request from my physician. I asked HR if they had run this by Legal and they said "Come back to your existing position by Wednesday or you're terminated as of Friday".

Contacted a lawyer that I knew and showed him the email and several denials of ADA accommodation. He contacted Intel Legal and they were jumping through flaming hoops within four hours. HR person sent me an email stating that "they misinterpreted the ADA regulation and request from my physician".

Legal offered me any position within my field / grade. My lawyer said that's not what I want anymore - this garbage had been going on for several months by now - and he said I was going to pursue legal remedy. Intel Legal came back with essentially a "please don't sue us since our pants were around our ankles" settlement $$ number.

If HR is still doing fishy stuff, ask if they've cleared it through the legal department. And no, I won't provide my lawyers name or which state I was employed in.

HR is about ensuring first, the company is aligning wit HR policies, rules and regulations to protect from any legal recourse. If an employee is having an issue that could expose the company legally, they will respond immediately, but with the company's interest. They will seek to rectify the situation, and will elicit as much information to 1) understand their risk 2) re-align the source of the risk to again, protect the company. During that process, if they discover the employee does have a case that could result in damages to the company, you better lawyer up. You just got your ticket to being expelled. They will follow every HR rule by the book in the eyes of who is watching, but behind the scenes, it is about whatever it takes to protect the company. HR laws exist to protect both employees and the company. HR never wants to have to deal with situations where those laws have been violated, but unfortunately, there are a lot of stupid leaders that get them into sticky situations. If they fire the leader, it will show they agree there was a law broken, so they have to navigate it carefully.

Don't trust or depend on HR for anything... they are cunning and conniving... who backstab the employees by siding with managers on the sly after pretending to be on your side. Ignore problems or leaving Intel is the only solution.
