Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

My kid had a science field day last month and wanted to be in it. I said fine, but I'm not helping you because don't waste your time...

I told him, he was wasting his time, because it's not a good idea to make a career out of it. He turns to me and says, "aren't you an engineer"? I said yes, and If I only counted on that to pay for this house, this car, your extracurricular activity, we wouldn't be living here because we wouldn't be able to afford it, especially if most of us are going to be unemployed soon.

Then he asked what "unemployed" means? I told him "when dad loses your job because the company he big boss at the company he works for wants a new yacht and decides to fire dad and replace dad with someone in overseas that claims they can do the same job at only 1/8 the salary of what dad makes".

Then he starts to worry. "Are we going to have to move?" I tell him firmly "no". Fortunately, dad didn't spend all his time and work and spent my free time "investing" and we are close enough to not needing dad to work, though it will be a little tight since we do have to cut some of our expenses slightly....He says, I'm ok with that daddy as long as you are happy.

Kids are great. They don't know what sort of sh-- is in store for them when they become an adult.
