Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

I declined ERP - will the come after me?

I'm 57, have been at Intel for 18 years and have been in the same grade for 8 of those years. I received outstanding the year before last. What is my fate at Intel? Will I even make it another year?

I'm the OP. I didn't advance in grade because I didn't push the issue with management while other's did. I now realize I made a mistake in being passive in that regard. I'm very good at my job however.

So you are senior and know and do your job well, but have come to a place where advancement ( the grade kind not the age ) is beyond you're means or ability but hit it hard every day. Basically this company thinks your of little value and would like some young buck who makes maybe half much and listens and to his boss bit wouldn't know if he $hit in his own pants isote valuable to BK and the MCM, LOL

I think this Gary Larson cartoon best describes your status:

I'm 55yo G56. I did a lot of reading on the EEOC web site about age discrimination. Giving us the big GTFO simply because we have been in grade or at Intel a long time would not be legal because it would target older employees.

Intel is free to offer us a voluntary package using an algorithm that disproportionally singles out older employees, which they obviously did. But using that same NON-PERFORMANCE criteria to force us out would violate the ADEA "Reasonable Factors Other than Age" test.

I'm pissed because Intel makes it sound as if being offered VSP was a performance message. But being in your grade a long time when you are maxed out or close to being maxed out is not a performance issue, its one of LONGEVITY. The mere fact there is an ADEA is notice to employers that we are a protected class, so Intel needs to be careful trumpeting non-performance related issues such as time in grade as an excuse to terminate us.

You can read about it yourself at https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2012/03/30/2012-5896/disparate-impact-and-reasonable-factors-other-than-age-under-the-age-discrimination-in-employment but its quite a slog.

Grade 6. I'm female. I'll definitely get O or EE or promoted to 7 this year. My org. doesn't want to lose me.

O rating should protect you for at least 1 year, after that you're on your own. Not sure how good the ERP pkg will be next year though. Probably not as good as this year.

The O rating is protecting you. Don't worry too much.
