Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Excellent analysis from another thread

Feel free to discuss

I took ERP because I'm scared where Intel is heading. Looks like a regular thing the company will do from now to the future. Employees told how little they are valued by the fact that they must choose ERP or VSP before the details of their projects are announced. Repeated attempts to frighten them into taking packages.

Focal will become more and more brutal. No more value in teamwork, it will be dog eat dog as everyone have to stomp on those around them as 10% are forced out each new year.

Yop management believe they must micromanage all organizations below them. Not let those under them make their own decisions. Forced focal quotas strongly enforced. No one told the true criteria used the next time for ISPs and VSPs. Not letting managers and groups make own decisions about where and how their people work. Run reports on who leaves early on Fridays or what apps they run during the day or how many times/what time they badge in.

I am out because I see the best and brightest at Intel rushing out. Some ISPs & VSPs because they had bad managers or happened to be on projects that didn't go well or will not be funded. Probably even higher number because they don't like the new direction. No one will be willing to take risk anymore because risk takers will be shown the door. We haven't real leaders with vision. Anyone left will be throttled by risk of innovation - only do what has proven effective before, don't try anything new. Others were already cut or choose to abandon the ship sinking.

Intel is losing its heart and soul and I want out while the going is good.

FLM and SLM will meet quota but this time around positive stock and message will be rotated around to protect people.

Focal manager " show the focal list and by year the stock and rating. Okay we'll use 50% of our positive to protect some average and the same of the negative we'll give to the best employees as they got a positive last year and are safe". So if you are the cream of the crop you will see stock and positive messages given to worse performing employees because the not so smar San Jose State CEO did this stupid algorithmic cut, LOL

To those who say it's idiotic to have stayed at Intel for 18 years, all I can say is, it wasn't always like this. I've been here 18 years and received an ISP (site closure). If the culture had been like this when i started, I would have left within a couple of years. Heck - I probably would have heard how Intel was and never joined, actually. They'll have that reputation now so it will be interesting how they do in recruiting.

It will be interesting to see what actual transformation happens after all of the cost-cutting is complete. I don't think collocation is going to be the magic bullet they hope.

Why are most people so bitter? Your negative attitude shows during interviews. You are all good people whose turn has come to leave. You had been trained well. Use your possitive attitude and skills to land new jobs. It is an opportunity to start anew. Show intel that you live well and thank intel for it.

Most of you probably saw others leave intel in the past. It is your turn and so will others in coming years. Even the best will have his/her turn. Move on and live well.

RE: The longer people have been at Intel, more stupid they are.

And you know this how? I work with many people that have been with Intel a very long time and they are still sharp and very productive. You are being an assmaking statements like this one. People are simply being idiots here because they can post anonymous stupidity.

Analysis is from bitter person about being let go. The longer people have been at Intel, more stupid they are. Why do you think Intel is getting rid of people and bringing in fresh blood with lucrative offers. Also focal is being changed to being kinder. There is simply no need for old dead wood or people with no skills who just come to work at Intel to collect paycheck for repeating monkey work.. powerpoint, word documents and playing politics against their peers. Intel will become a better company after grtting rid of rodents and beimg lean and objective oriented with better work environment. Half the people let go can not get job outside Intel, why should Intel want the unwanted.

GET OVER THE REJECTION AND MOVE ON WITH EASY AND GENEROUS $$$$ HANDED OUT TO YOU BY INTEL.

First level 4 in 20 plus years, well that is what it is.

Every company that got my resume and every interview so far has been so positive. Everyone that understand my skill and had a position has me proceeding to the next step.

VSP/ERP take it if you are good, screw the company that doesn't want you get out and find out the grass is really greener out there.

Intel lives by Moore's Law. Let me tell you don't believe the kool-aid on the Circuit. Moore's Law died about three generations ago. Just look at the schedules and how un exciting the new products are and how the business is evaporating..

The Titanic has hit the iceberg and is sinking, the managment is chasing commodity business where many other companies are better positioned and leaner. There is no x86 monopoly protecting intel. The server business is moving to the cloud and the cloud company MS and Amazon and others can't wait to jettison intel x86 for open standards that are far cheaper. They have already started and will do it in another 2-3 years, then the company will go the way of Kodak, DEC!

Get out while your skills are still valuable and other companies still think you are at the cutting edge of technology, wait another few years and you are old news from an old company. Just ask do people from Nokia or Blackberry matter anymore, and did they 8 years ago, LOL

And it's not just the workplace; Intel's oversight "Run reports on who leaves early on Fridays or what apps they run during the day or how many times/what time they badge in." echoes a larger question of technology's attitude in general to the society that supported it. Technology, hand in hand with government, seems to be headed to a bad place with no real push back from all of us who are increasingly subject to its ethics.

The Titanic has hit iceberg and all Intel is doing is rearranging the furniture on the ship.

TINTELNIC (very long time ago) hit the iceberg. The problem here is that only 4 forward compartments are compromised (not 5, as in TITANIC). The creators of TINTELNIC were sure that 4 flooded compartments will hold, and TITELNIC can finish the journey. Wrong calculations. So, the ballast must be thrown overboard for TITELNIC to stay afloat. No matter which ballast, the captain throws crew to the water as well as passengers.

At the end the wreck stays afloat indefinitely (moves nowhere), in other words it is totally useless... Drifts around, so it must be cut to pieces to be sold for the few pennies of the invested buck. ;-)

Ditto on taking the ERP. The Titanic has hit iceberg and all Intel is doing is rearranging the furniture on the ship.
