Why do we (the membership) not buy control of the landline division? We are the one's who know how to properly maintain it and we are also the one's who would be able to make it most profitable. Buy it, rename it, get it in order and then sell it, so that each and every one of our members would be able to comfortably retire and leave plenty behind for future generations. Enough of this battling back and forth every three years. Let's take it over, make it successful and further prove the incompetency of Verizon's current leadership.

because the system is in such disrepair, it could not stand on its own without a massive upgrade and we would not have access to the amount required to invest to do it correctly, only another corporation with huge money to spend could do it unfortunately...
It's not rocket science to make an already successful business even more successful, especially once we would trim away all of the toxic management. Fios is the best data/video service in the U.S. period. I would build it out everywhere, bury all of the cable competition and start up a fully WiFi based mobile service similiar to Googles ProjectFi and crush the VZ Wireless and At&t's of the world. Provide a quality service, at a price that all can afford and the customers will come in droves. Employment opportunities would be endless and those at the top would not be making 250 times the wage of the average employee. It can be done and our membership has the skills to make it happen.
This debate is pointless... we all know the union members don't have the brains or balls to pursue this. intrinsically, every last one of them know they're just leeches... without a strong host to live off of, they'll wither and die.
Here's a little problem for the union bosses - none of you have any management expertise. You've just made a big stink over how much those useless people in management make. So what would you be willing to offer, and to whom?
You've made it clear that current management is incompetent. Who would run this? The field techs?
It would be like an episode of Bar Rescue, it would be out of business in 5 years.
To all the naysayers, keep in mind that there are billions of dollars that are being pulled from the landline pot each year to pad wireless. We would not have that burden and would present the true numbers which would prove to be much greater, again, pointing directly to the incompetence and corruption that the current executive team is a part of. And don't forget, we would then be the one's billing Verizon Wireless for the use of our facilities. At least until Lowell completely runs it into the ground.
i disagree, and as i said before, are we ready to be our own boss. I say this because while there are some really great workers here, we as our own boss would have to discipline and fire those who are not. We would retire most but some should not be near the public. If you say im wrong you have no idea. Not that i do in my little area. But as a business that we wanted to succeed its a great model. Fios to everyone and think of all those GOV dollars we could get for it. Also with a special relationship with VZ (yes in writing) and as long as we got transport yes we could do it. But its stinks of socialism maybe even the big C. Workers control the means....... That i do not like. But we would build a like corp in its place, we would have too. Just hopefully not evil.
@gor, actually, I've worked in multiple areas throughout the company and could personally guarantee doubling the amount of FiOS customers within the first year. As far as incompetence, if you work for the company and are doubting that it actually exists, then you have some real personal issues.
Because we don't want to own a sinking ship.

We would not need a business plan. They would give it to us. Remember it gets rid of the 2 biggest headaches union workers and copper. Then they could happily run the rest of the vz name into the ground just without us. Thats gonna happen anyway. I think the plan falls down when you remember that by running the place means yo face the reality of this plant and the workers. Are we really ready to be our own boss.
