Because Union employees that were hired before 2003 can't get RIF'd, VZ does the next closest thing. A buyout.

An EISP is an Enhanced Income Security Plan. There are different scales for the EISP, but for some long-timers, an EISP that is accepted can net you $75,000 to $100,000, if not more.

Only seen the extra $40 grand eisp two times in mid Atlantic....2010 & 2014....with 2014 being better with age penalty removed on pension lump sum. All other eisps only been $10 grand to leave. I am in protected group and would like to leave but probably hang around till 2019...see what happens then. Longer I stay more they want to get of me and holding out for true super eisp

Shrink the union further... when it's time for another union contract negotiations, we'll get ya after you retire.

40+10+2200 is the standard EISP pretty much. A super EISP would need to be 5+5 or more. 5+5 or more and I would think 10,000 plus folks would leave. I know a darn lot of us in the protected group that have 6 years to go to retirement would exit in a heart beat.

I hear an EISP is coming next month. I think it will be $40k plus $10k plus $2200 for years worked up to 40. I haven't heard anything else. This was the EISP shown in the RTW AGREEMENT.
