Suggestion for Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance Coverage

If you've recently separated from Intel and have some medical appointments/procedures pending, you may want to contact Intel Health to get your COBRA coverage status expedited ... 877-466-9236. Note that even with the status being expedited it may still take 1-2 weeks for the insurance companies to get their records updated.

I had a dental appointment and and some lab work that had to be pushed out by several weeks since both providers said my insurance was cancelled as of May 31st. I was told that I could still keep the appointments, pay for the services and then submit to get reimbursed but I chose not to.

(Yes you can do that from your home pc)

You can sign up fro cobra there. I did it the day after my last day... and I am sure my release hadn't been processed yet.

It does take some time to become active, but the coverage is retroactive so you are not without coverage.

You may have to pay out of pocket now and file for reimbursement when it processes. Or do like I did, and just ask the doctors to refile in a week or two, if they even notice, which most don't.

And the insurance will be like you never changed, anything you spent toward a deductible will transfer.

Also, this works to your advantage in the end. Come December 1st the intel paid coverage will end. You will have a choice to pay yourself to extend the coverage. And again it is a retroactive type thing. So you could actually wait until January to decide to pay for December, and of course you can make that decision based on if you actually had any bills to pay. This is assuming that you sign up for different insurance that starts January 1, either with a new employer or something independent.

I was told I could not get approved for COBRA until my Separation Agreement was "processed".

My entire family is without any health Insurance right now.

I thought this kind of sh-- was illegal.

So you get to keep your current insurance and deductibles in tact?

I have just told the doctors office to wait a few weeks and file again if they get denied. So far none have complained.
