Thread regarding GE Oil & Gas layoffs

Layoff of remaining JAC / WBR staff happened this morning....

Layoff of remaining remnants of Highlife Dr. (JAC / WBR) have finally happened today. It was a 50% casualty rate of the 6 remaining staff of originally 30+ employees. Of those 6 remaining , 3 were let go and 3 got to stay and be absorbed into another facility locally (a 50% casualty rate). Site officially closes today and will pass on to another GE entity in renewables next month. Very sad day for a site that was the lone subsea repair shop in all of the North American western hemisphere.

Is the controls business still alive and well in NAM regardless of its location.
I know this was a while back, but its good for all of us to reflect on the past so we can learn for the now.

Sounded like the guy defending the business still had a mid senior level postion, and he drank a lot of coolaide.

But looking back, i think we can all agree that this guys case is a metaphor that goes like this.
Its 2020 and your a blonde, blue eyed, single girl, and your at a speed dating event. And OJ Simpson sits down across from you. LOL LOL LOL. I think we all know what happens next.

You both are professional but one of you are living in front of layoffs and the other behind them. GE Money Managers are laughing at you both.

I my friend don't have to do or explain anything:)....you obviously seem to know me pretty well....you seem to think you know who I am based on your previous post;). I really don't think you do:). I have access to more than you think I do...but alas its time to put this to bed for now. And you obviously need to start focusing on your new role as its going to become even MORE challenging with the pressures and expectations far exceeding your previous role. That information alone should make you rethink who you are chatting with on this end I assure you;). Best to stop worrying about things you have no control over and start delivering some real value over at NHR;). God knows you have been protected by a number of individuals coattails all these years;).

Sorry, just one more. Your major point "GE as a whole is letting go ALOT of good people" is undoubtably true. But, by the same rationale so has the likes of Halliburton, Schlumberger, Baker Hughes, Chevron, Shell, Transocean, Dril Quip, Oceaneering, FMC, Cameron, ETC., ETC. So, I once again find myself searching for your real intent here. You have either decided to become the national spokesman for RIF'd employees or, you are the mouthpiece for someone that got layed off today and contacted you to pass along all of this OMG fresh off the press information. Either way, you really need to reconsider where you are going with this.

Awesome and thanks. I've totally enjoyed the banter. Based on you word selection and writing style, I knocked you off after your first blog. I was just baiting you to confirm my selection. You didn't disappoint! Much like the police keeping someone on the line long enough to trace the call. Anyway, it sounds like we both feel the same way about the employees. Just wish you would have done more to save them. Easy to be a Monday morning QB. Put your ego aside and engage as I know you are a current employee.

P.S. Thanks for keeping this professional as well. No personal attacks involved here. Well Done!!!!

P.P.S. This is my last response, have at it. I probably won't read anymore as well as I am now done with this.

Why are you even posting if my comments bother you so much? The point of the post (yes an opinion if you want to insist) is that the facility is indeed shut and good people are on the unemployment line. That's IT. Nothing more was relayed nor was their some underlying agenda to discredit the company. And 50% meant the remaining staff on the ground at the time of the closure...6 people of which 3 lost their jobs. Please move on about your business and stop trying to discredit the facts. These losses are NEVER reported in the news say for Lufkin's and therefore reductions should come out showing that GE as a whole is letting go ALOT of good people. Pound sand somewhere else.

Not disputing the fact that the business is relocating. Just as it has in the past. From Jack to Willowbrook, Willowbrook to High Life, and now High Life to NHR. Agreed? Good. So why is this a big deal? Also, can't dispute the fact that the business is still operational with most of the same folks from High Life. 50% casualty rate, really? Go to Ace Hardware if you need to grind your ax.

Dude/Dudette, what are you trying to prove here. Are you trying to discredit the business, the facility, GE, or the employees. Not sure where or why you are going with this. Regardless, you are entitled to your opinion. Just hope everyone here recognizes that this is exactly what that is, your opinion. Once again, a little fact checking goes a long way. Please leave the employees alone, they don't deserve your rant.

6955 Highlife Dr? Sure...how does noon Wednesday sound? You can take me to lunch and take me on a tour of those empty offices and warehouse. We can even take a few pics of your Smiling, happily employed faces to share with everyone here. See you then?

Stop by next week, we'll leave the lights on for you. The Controls business is still alive and well in North America, regardless of location. You will still see many of the same friendly faces as well. The business has not closed and has not been decimated by layoffs as some would like you to believe. Coffee?

The poster above obviously wants to mislead the many of you on this forum. Feel free to check it out for yourself....the facility is at 6955 Highlife Dr. Field service vehicles, Rental Tools?...long gone. In its place? Renewables equipment. Not even a staff vehicle on site other than a token "closer" team. This facility is now CLOSED and will be operating as a new non-O&G GE business entity very soon...

Hey folks, the statements here are totally false. For the real truth, contact someone that works there. They will tell you that there are still fully staffed field service, rental, and OTR departments. Additionally, there were at least 2 SS shops in NAM ( western region.....only a long term legacy Vetco employee would make that reference which means they should have known better in the first place to publish such fiction)

If you want to criticize the actions or decisions, fine; just get and report your facts correctly!
