Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Insult to Injury

A friend of mine was released during the spring ROM. Yesterday, the anniversary gift package arrived congratulating my friends on their 10 years with the company.

" Chevron, powered by human resources". That's the first glass of corporate koolaid for college recruits; some of whom have not had pior employment experiences and almost certainly not at a mega-corp. like the Chevron mothership. @- 1kca pretty much hits the nail on the head without sugar-coating. Then the Chevron Way, the Tenets of Operation, CPDEP, and the littany of processes. Oh and the unending focus on safety....and everyone's right to go home at night to their families. Like Chevron cares. Well they do care...about the bottom line. It is a business. Big business. Good work while you can get it with a salary that probably put you in the top percentiles of US wage-earners. Those with internships and FT positions (for how long?) continue to share experiences with our friends still in school. When our college recruiters got let go this year, it kind of put things in perspective. It will be a long time till anyone at this university will be eager to drink the koolaid even when hiring comes around again.

when are you all going to get it in your brains that Chevron, or any other company/employer does NOT give a rat's a$$ about you ? you are a resource and as such replaceable and disposable.

technically the 2016 ESP employees are still on the payroll until June 13th, so if the anniversary was before that date, there is nothing wrong with it.

these things are automatically triggered by SAP or whatever ERP system and some HR drone then sends them.

Why would you even give a sh!t about some damn luncheon ? Seriously..... wouldn't that be the least of your concerns in today's environment ?

@teh, I bet the bosses boss cancelled on your luncheon last minute because he had a better offer. He probably attended a more senior person's service pin lunch or farewell party, replete with alcoholic beverages, 2-inch streaks, giant gulf shrimp and naked strippers lap dancing up and down and all around.

@vwv, The company has not and will not urinate on me, although maybe you are a person deserving of such treatment. In fact, the company was so kind as to exonerate me from having to pay back that one week paycheck "loan" taken in 2000. That was about $1,100 back in the day. Thanks Chevron for the 30 years, lavish luncheon with drinks, and the one year severance check as the cherry on top.

You think this company is going to miss a chance to urinate all over you one last time?

That happened to me too. I received my 30 year service anniversary letter about 60 days before my last day in the office. It was bitter sweet and the timing was awkward, but I earned my 30 year award and accepted it with pride in my accomplishment. My service award luncheon was delayed several times because of schedule changes to accommodate my boss and group manager. We had the all-out lavish luncheon with no holds barred one week before my final day. It was two celebrations in one - a congratulations and a farewell. Personally, it felt a little strange, but on retrospect, I'm glad it went down that way. I had a good run with Chevron. Enjoying my retirement now.

That happened to me too after 10 years. I didn't expect it. Laid off then a letter comes in the mail congratulating me on 10 years of service pick and pick a gift. Then my department does a congratulating email of all the milestones which includes my 10 years. Co-workers felt bad and awkward - do they congratulate me or what. I didn't want to do the service award lunch as it felt like the last supper not a milestone celebration. The day before my last day, I received a quarterly rewards and recognition gift for a job well done. For me, they just made it hard. Others I'm sure will have other feels.
