Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Can someone do a favor and ask BK why doesn't he open VSP to all Intel employees in USA.

He will not only get more than 11% volunteers who just want to get out of Intel ASAP with a package , but also retain people who really want to work in Intel. He probably should have done this before the ISP's wee given out, that way people wouldn't have to be forced to leave. But again it's not late.

Yes, you can see dead jobs everywhere if you look for them. For example IT reduced its 'strategy' group from 50ish people to less than 10. I will bet you nobody will miss whatever they did. Kudos to whomever did this, but we need to find much more of this and reappoint people at useful work.

I didn't realize there were that many dead jobs. I know there are things that have to be done because there isn't a better way to do them. I'm in product development and there's always a shortage of people to do things. If a job is not needed, that person could fill gaps elsewhere.

The problem isn't so much 'dead wood' as it is 'dead jobs', many of the so called jobs inside of Intel are completely pointless, doesn't really matter 'who' does them.

Last time the opened VSP, good people took the package and quickly found jobs elsewhere. The point of VSP is to get rid of the deadwood

When a company starts making decisions about who should stay and who should go based on formulas and not based on who is doing the best at the critical work they need done the result will be swiss cheese- lots of holes. Think you can hire an RCG to fill every hole? You will find out the RCG doesn't know you already developed the solution to that problem 3 years ago, and they don't even know what corner of the library to look into.

I asked BK, and BK said he is not stupid enough to do that. I agreed. Spend a few seconds thinking about it and figuring it out, people.

Bump. Need to have more Intel people see this even though very few are from Intel in this website.

@ttj: Geez, who pissed in your cereal? Why so uptight? OP brought up a very valid point. OP was not rude in any way, unlike you.

@wee I'd say that my last 3 focals have been more political than merit based, yes. Two were under what I was expecting when I was not exactly on the best side of that management chain. I was told two FLM's were pushing for a promo for me one year and got S+SSL3 after upper management review. Then I changed teams, learned from my mistakes, and a very average year turned into a great focal.

My advice - play the game.

They tried that in 2015 and it didn't work out well. They offered VSP first and ISP second. Apparently it didn't work out well since they changed the order this time.

Whole process was fcked up, should have been a much wider really voluntary VSP. The excuse was they didn't want to let go high performers. Guess what? Lots of those who took VSP/ERP, even ISP were good solid talent that maybe weren't favored by the last few focals, which have been extremely political and not really merit-based as most know. The remaining high performers are considering leaving in the next few months or within a year after this whole mess.

Keep in mind OP that Intel makes logic, they just don't use it.

They really made a big mess with the ISPs which could've been avoided by just offering those people VSP and doing performance management on the ones who REALLY should have been let go.
