Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Took retirement, took another job and happier

Dear Intel Employees,

Took retirement after ~30yrs. and immediately started working for another company. My stress level has significantly lowered. For that reason, I am far happier than at any time at Intel. Let me tell you, skills you get at Intel are in demand. You will find a job quickly if you want. Intel paid me so so, but in my time stock was doing very well. So I decided to stay. Could hit my 1st million in the 1st 10 years. You get the idea. But now, Intel is in decline and will not do as well. The gross margins of 65% of microprocessors are history. IOT is really the old embedded business under a new fancy name, a low margin business. Intel missed mobile revolution (Apple et el). Too late in graphics (Nvidia). Laptops are commodity. Servers are going to get a run for its money by ARM. The high tech industry is de-centralizing, exactly reverse of consolidation by mergers. So mergers are not going to help Intel. Remember DEC, IBM, HP, Sperry, CDC, Sun, and the list of companies that declined goes on.

My suggestion to you is not to waste your time feeling bitter. Or feeling ill against management. The severances they give is second to none in the industry. Instead focus on your skills, finances and health. Save as much as you can. No body will bail you out when your time comes. If you are not happy, my suggestion is to go join a company that is still in its infancy, something like Intel was 30 years ago. That way you have the benefit of rising stock prices.

I hope you find this note useful.

All the best and good luck!

Worked 73 years at intel. Signed the ERP agreement providing me with a salary for the rest of my life. Found a better paying job the next week.

I can't believe I've worked so hard so many years in that hell hole.

Now I'm Frrreeedde!

Too many inside Intel have drunk the kool-aid for far too long to be rational.

Intel culture weeds out anyone who dares question orthodoxy around Moore's Law and that Intel rules the world. Anyone who wants to keep their job - including aspiring to MCM - would be stupid to not spout party line BS, as delusional as it is! The Bain consultants who advise BK and the Board only enable such continued stupidity while collecting ungodly sums for experimentation around the edges.

The job of CEOs and Boards is to point the company in the right strategic direction and enable the right culture and plans to execute. How can anyone not evaluate BK and Co. as failures in this regard?

I'm happy to be gone.

"This poster got it right, INTEL is really screwed up. I loved my job, worked crazy hours for this company. Due to wrong place wrong time got my first 4 and kicked to the curb. I've moved on and so many opportunities being offered.

As to the poster evaluation he got it right, but he missed one thing. Moore's Law is ending and Intel has NO plan at all. Talk to the executives and they keep drinking the same koolaid. Only when you acknowledge the fact can you accept the fate and put in place a real plan. Intel continues to be denial about end of Moore's Law, disbelief that x86 and server is in decline, delusioned to think commodity products can fix it.

It is laughable that so many intelligent technologist could be so fooled by a king with no clothes and a little man proclaiming Moore is alive and well. Just go to show you how stupid smart people can be when they can't accept the end has come."

Retired and Happy is right in his assessment of Intel's future and IoT. IoT is the same as the embedded business that has now been re-branded. Also, If you started at Intel 30 years ago you did learn valuable skills as Grove was running the place in those days. Try to join an early-stage company with a visionary founder.

Moore is Dead

x86 monopoly is slowing coming to an end

PCs are in contraction

servers are being assaulted by x86

IOT and memory are not the savior.

So many trolls it's hard to tell if it's fake or not. But if you made 1 million in first 10 years then stayed 20 more years why the F do you need to continue working?

What skills did you get at Intel? Make PowerPoint foils? Say yes to management about hitting unrealistic schedules? Find somebody to blame when schedule slips? Oh wait, Intel prepared us for Congress.
