Mark Reed's Victory E-mail???? What Was He Smoking When Writing That One?

If anyone has seen, and read Mark Reed's East Coast Negotiations email yesterday. You would have to think this guy is either on drugs or in serious mental denial. Those of you who haven't, It's basically a victory lap complete with a bow at the end. He actually writes that "Verizon accomplished ALL it's goals in this round of bargaining with the Unions" And is consolatory toward the Union membership for their loss, and understanding as we move forward and beyond this.

I don't know what he was smoking when penning that e-mail, but Mark...The Contract the Union's achieved in this bargaining, looks nothing like Your Last, and Best, and Final offer...as a matter of fact it couldn't be further from that LBFO. Anyone outside your office would have to say that Verizon accomplished nothing in this Strike.

So what's the deal with this delusional Email? It's almost like an old Soviet Union press statement full of propaganda to deceive the public, and maybe more so the non-Union employees of the Verizon.

My guess is Verizon does not want it's non -union staff to see that the Union's Won hands down this Strike, and beat back RIF's and LBFO's and other givebacks. It truly is a non truthful E-Mail

Very unnecessary, E-mail, and you have to wonder why? Scary actually.

Agree with 1ssb, 1egl is reading a ton into Reed's email (it is a victory lap though, could argue he's putting positive spin out ahead of weak/poor 2Q numbers rather than picking a fight 3 years out, there's plenty of time for that). 1egl is right on one point - the company and unions have objectives that are directly opposed and always will be. In particular, watch healthcare costs, the company has a foot in the door now, let's see what happens next.

I care what E-Mails Mark Reed sends out, Isn't he one of our executive leaders? These clowns are running the show, it's about time we take a good long hard look at the incompetence of this leadership. That E-mail looks like something a spoiled rotten baby child would send out if he could type. Not grown man and an executive of a fortune 500 company.

its odd we still come here and argue points after deal been signed off by union & company, voted on, and now in place. why? each side won something, each side showed their stupidity during strike...lets move on for the sake of the customers who may need and want our services. who cares what email mark R sends out.

No actually it was a pretty good sample size of the overall scab workforce they hired. Weak? Might want to rethink that.

Did the company win when a drunk guy hit a picketer? Did the company win when customers left? Did the company win when a pole was dropped on a house?

These same three things are brought up again and again. If that's really all you've got to go on, then it's weak at best.

Did the company win when a drunk guy hit a picketer? Did the company win when customers left? Did the company win when a pole was dropped on a house? The only people that won are the stock option people, like Reed. This place is a clown show.

I think the OP needs to re-take basic reading comprehension.. No where in the email does it say what you are saying it says...

Mark Reeds E-Mail is nothing more than picking a fight with the Unions. That E-Mail has essentially said, We are a company that is divided, and we don't want you! His E-mail tells the Union, that the leadership in Verizon does not want them, and will be gunning for them until there gone. His E-mail says prepare to fight. His E-Mail tells you this fight is not over. The Union needs to be now more than ever vigilant, and preparing for the battle. The membership unfortunately has to have eyes in the back of their heads now.

Typical Verizon Management today under these leaders...."F" the customer lets fight each other.

Do just what's necessary, and not one inch more. Do not go out of your way for anyone or anything...Mark is telling you to WORK BY THE BOOK OR ELSE!

So lets WORK BY THE BOOK!

To wpg: Give me a break about all the hard work the union guys do for their career. They spend most of their time dodging work, talking on cell phones and getting paid much more than their industry peers. This force is a bunch of protected dinosaurs that no one really wants. The ones I saw at VZW during the strike look like they spent 49 years drinking, not working !

bgc -- you are ignorant, Many spend over 15 yrs in school preparing for work, then spend over 40 years working. Many will fight to get the most out of their working careers. It determines how they will live out their remaining years .IT IS THEIR LIFE! The message your sending is you are a pitiful individual who would lay down rather then fight . You should be the 1st one rif'd. There are thousands worth saving more than you.

@qzj. What a sad and pathetic life you lead... YOUR JOB IS NOT YOUR LIFE... You all say how much you hate Verizon, yet you stay... I don't care the benefits you get the pension or whatever because you all are so high strung hateful individuals the majority of you won't be around to enjoy your pension you fought so hard to keep..

I'm wondering if there's more to this E-mail, because it just too ridiculous, that an executive no less would send out an e-mail like that. Victory lap for sure, with hands in the air, and yes, he takes a dramatic bow with rolling arms to boot in the end, for what? Even if the work stoppage did go Verizon way, you still as an executive do not put out an E-mail like that.

I would hope in the coming days this Email gets addressed. This is no way to move forward as a company and business that is supposed to work together for the best interest of the customer. To me, Mark Reed has thrown down the gauntlet, and is picking a fight for sure, maybe he's telling the Union it's on again in three years.

If it is, I'm sure The Union will spend the next three years planning, and getting ready to fight. Instead of working for the company, and the customer The fight is on. Nice going Mark.

Reminds me of George W. Bush's "Mission Accomplished" speech in 2003. If you need a reminder:

What kind of work environment does it present with we won you lost email. This guy should be gone, typical nerd who never competed in anything. People are still pissed, on both sides, and this fuels the fire.

I've seen that E-mail, and it's definitely written in deceiving matter, bordering out right lying. I like the analogy of old Soviet Union propaganda because that hit's the nail right on head in this case. Any union member reading it would have to be scratching their head, and any non-union employee would feel as the Union lost, and the company has won, which is actually the complete opposite. The only explanation to this bizarre E-mail is Mark doesn't want the rest of Verizon Unionizing.

By the end of this contract, we will be down to approximately 25k-30k members and we agreed to further increases in healthcare. The LBFO bull$hit was nothing more than a low ball offer to make you think that what we ultimately got, would feel like a victory, and it obviously worked. Bottom line, if you have less than 25 years of service, you are screwed. Do you remember what our healthcare premiums were approximately 6 years ago? $0.00.....A far cry from what they are now and the co-pays are double or triple what they were just 2 contracts ago. All of the prementioned facts are one sided victories for Verizon. The company continues to show record breaking profits and we continue to give away more and more each contract. The numbers don't lie and the numbers are not in our favor.

Does it really matter? I really don't think he is going to be with VZ much longer. They have other HR people that they like much better and they will want to take care of them. At this point, he can say anything he wants. No one cares.
