Money isn't everything in life. Don't let Nigerian severance pay bother you. Just put it out of your mind and forget about it.

Fcv does not even make sense....if it were the local Naira currency, then 1,000,000 Naira would be around only $5000. Vga, vus, and sew all know what they are talking about. I have worked in Nigeria and I had to let a Nigerian go in a VSP a few years ago. If you have never worked in Nigeria, it is easy to think that this is a fantasy...and that the figures being discussed are false. It depends on pay grade, but believe me, they get packages that others could only dream of.

Above PSG23, I'm pretty sure Nigeria is the highest payroll in CVX. And is definitely a Seven figure lump sum at severance for many. The unions are powerful and have wrung out high raises consistently for 20 years. Compounding. US structure has been minimal over the same period.

PSG 23 and up with at least 10 years with the company gets the equivalent of about $1MM in cash, plus their full pension. I knew someone around PSG 21 that got close to $600K about three years ago.

If I were going to be let go I would love to be a Nigerian employee. They get everything they want and Chevron doesn't even put up a fight.

Something similar already done in Angola, can't fire nationals best to offer a lump sum and let them walk away, doubt it's in the millions.

Not true @vga. The "million" number you think you heard is not a Dollar or Euro figure. It may be their monopoly-type of funny money. But, you and the OP didn't hear correctly.

Maybe if you had been captured for random and chevron had to send military to rescue you.

eot - how do you know it is false? Are you working in Nigeria or have you worked there? I have. Based on prior VSP's a few years ago, I tend to believe the OP is correct. Don't ever underestimate the power of the Nigerian government and unions to secure the very best terms for Nigerians. We need the oil there, so we bow to them.

False, and you know it.

Not the first time. CNL national employees are the highest cost employees in the company.
