Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

In case you missed the news... Intel cancelled the Atom SOC product line, effective immediately. Also, the LTE modems are most likely out.

Why do people continue think the next iPhone will have an intel modem inside? That would be pretty stupid for Apple to use a product from intel that is discontinued/end-of-life

"As it proceeds with a massive restructuring plan announced earlier this month, Intel will exit the smartphone and tablet mobile SoC business by ending its struggling Atom chip product line. The discontinued products include those code-named SoFIA, Broxton and Cherry Trail. As Intel CEO Brian Krzanich explained in his latest blog, the chip giant’s focus is now squarely on “Cloud, IoT, memory/programmable solutions, 5G and Moore’s Law. Out are mobile SoCs. Intel is shifting resources previously directed toward SoFIA/Broxton to "products that deliver higher returns and advance our strategy," according to a company spokeswoman. The spokeswoman confirmed: The Broxton platform for phones and tablets is cancelled, effective immediately SoFIA 3GX, LTE and LTE2 commercial platforms are cancelled, effective immediately. Considering a slowdown in demand and the cutthroat price war for both smartphones and tablets, Intel’s strategic retreat from the mobile SoC battle is perhaps understandable."

I still have a Dell piece-of-crap notebook with an Atom processor that I use when I have to travel. It's slow as sh--, but all I use it for is reading email, writing documents and storing photos from my phone. The best part is that it has been virtually indestructible when the baggage gorillas and TSA manhandle it. I do wish the security guys wouldn't laugh at it, though.... It's rude.

Intel is taking 50% of Qualcomm business for iPhone 7. Eventually Apple will use Intel exclusively.

Nokia is laying off 15000 after the merger with Alcatel-Lucent. And majority of the layoffs are going to be in USA R&D from 4G LTE Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) product development since Nokia wants to use their product in ATT/VzW/Sprint. However, ALU's product is superior then Nokia's product. But because Nokia bought ALU, it wants to use it's product to show the USA customers who's the boss.

I hope ATT/VzW/Sprint demand they keep the ALU product because going to a less superior product doesn't make sense.

In order to buy Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia made a deal with the French government, that the French layoffs would be minimum (-411 jobs but +500 college grads) so now the USA employees are the ones to get hit by the layoffs.

ATT/VzW/Sprint are the USA company now providing Nokia with a steady stream of revenue and USA employees are the ones hardest hit by the layoffs. And the funny thing is that no USA manager/HR person is willing to tell the USA employee what percentage, which facility, when majority of the layoffs will occur.

Just check out the webpage: www.thelayoff.com/nokia -- not many employees are posting.

Nobody missed that news. Looks like they conceded LTE dildo market and will focus on Bluetooth/IoT dildos instead
