Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Midland home prices

For those who live in Midland, do you see prices falling as a result of the oil price drop? There seems to be a lot of houses on the market, but the prices seem high compared to the rest of Texas.

Perhaps they have already dropped, but that would mean they were even higher before.

It means that my work for Chevron has provided all of my income for the last 28 years.

@1ila, don't bank on Chevron covering the cost of your intimate wear anymore. Can't afford it. If you go to Midland, buy your own jockeys and a washing machine.

Did you negotiate that into your contract?

Actually, I am looking forward to going to Midland, and I think that Chevron is a great company. It has bought every pair of underware that I have owned for the last 28 years.

@1wzl, you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. Thank Chevron, your employer, for those two choices.

Right, I am going to refuse to go to Midland. That way I have no job, and get no severance.

Brilliant!!!

The Midland housing market has fewer newer style homes for sale. The market across the board is speculative. I would not purchase anything there, else you will be stuck upside down for 5-10 years. Rent a home or apartment, even though they too are high priced. Better yet, refuse to go to Midland.

A check of Realtor.com says there are almost 2000 houses for sale in Midland/Odessa. 600 in the $200-$300,000 price range. Many listed for several months.

Midland is not as up-to-date as Houston when it comes to real estate. Midland home market is over priced.

March 2016, sold more homes than in March 2015, home sales are up but prices are down a little. People in Midland still have money to move up. The $200 K to $300 K homes are selling fast. March had four homes listed for a million plus and three were sold.

I agree with @HjwVEBL-hch. Reality is going to bite these people HARD if things don't turn around in the next 6 montsh or so.

I live in Midland and I agree...these folks are in denial. Homes are sitting on the market indefinitely because people want 170-190k for a 1600 sf home that hasn't been updated since the 90s. It's incredible what 300k buys here vs the rest of Texas.
