Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

What is the upside of a BAC layoff?

We need some inspiration & appreciation for the opportunity we have had while working at BAC. What are the benefits of BAC layoff? A change in career direction? Another opportunity?

Although, the company appears to be in a downward spiraling sinking ship. We don't have to stay on the ship. All we can do is control what is within in our own control. BAC has many talented people who genuinely care. Unfortunately, in recent years many seem to be fighting to keep their roles or use power over others or to prove their own self worth. In the end, does it matter to keep a job if who we have become is to knock others down to climb the ladder? Legacy BAC had visions such as doing the right thing, inspiring others, team work, trust and power in it's people. The company may have lost the vision because the profits are sinking or perhaps because of greed. As associates at BAC, we don't have to join the crowd. The company has turned into an unfortunate working environment. I think each of us can do one thing positive each day to show those legacy BAC visions that many of us believed to be our own. A kind word, a nice gesture, a smile -- at least to each other to help us all get through the day. Let's not let what is happening with BAC make us into bitter associates. While we are on the ride, let's offer up all these irritations as gifts of gold for each other or as prayers. There will be nothing worse if we loose who we are for a job or a company. So, what are the upsides of a BAC layoff? Anyone?

BofA should be evaluating whether it should be in the various businesses that it operates in! It's the bank that is going down and cannot grow in a shrinking market and economy. Maybe the bank should look to expanding into some new areas where it can grow and make money instead of hanging on to past cash cows like the trading and brokerage business which are contracting at a phenomenal pace. What about growing the core business of actually lending money and operating as a bank?

I still work there but have seen the devisation it can give a person. My dear friend wasn't able to secure any jobs near her previous salary. I guess it really depends where you are located. After a year she was able to secure a job that met her bills and expenses. Yes there are jobs out there but they don't want to pay and you have so many people to complete with that might be more qualified than you.

Whether it is a business or not doesn't make their actions right or acceptable! Breaking people and careers has some consequences either morally or for the long term health of the business. Basically, when one is screwed over, it sucks!

I agree. it's time to focus on what you REALLY want to do with your life. Not only concerning your career/job, but life in general. The severance package for some will be a springboard into the next great opportunity; while for others it will only be enough to carry them over until the next job opens up. However, if you are still with the bank, start looking. Do NOT ignore the writing on the wall.

Why not try something outside of your comfort zone. Take a leap of faith, in yourself. Consider self-employment. Look within yourself and tap into that energy, creativeness, loyalty and positive attitude that you gave or are giving to the bank and apply it to starting your own business/businesses. Those great ideas that you shared with the bank, use them to generate an income for yourself, while having the freedom to choose your hours or spend time with your family.

Or, look at a different job field that you never considered. Who knows you may find that banking was not really your sweet spot.

BOA is a business. And, as a business it's doing what is best for the bottom line. We need to do the same thing. What is best for your bottom line? Figure that out and DO IT!!!!

Letting go of the comfort zone and striking out to do something that makes my heart happy! Letting go of the security of the severence plan, I've already taken steps, resume ready..makes me question if this is a career path I want to continue, the answer is probably no, my financial advisor would say..not. Like thinking about the various possibilities now that I've thought about letting go, it's fun to dream!
