Yes, it is true that in many Sears appliances are keeping the stores open,in my store it seems to be the one department making any money. Now that Penny's is getting back into selling appliances, we will see how that affects sales. If Sears wants to get rid of the mall stores,I wish they would just get it over with instead of this slow dieing process we are going through now.

It makes sense that Sears is opening smaller stores with only appliances. Sears only exists because of appliances/Kenmore (and, to an extent, Craftsman). Electronics is a tough business as it is (volume vs margin). Sears cannot compete in this area. Soft goods are a drag on the business as well--no one under the age of 60 holds Sears in high regards as a place to shop for apparel.

Sears is still #1 in appliances but that is quickly changing. They can open appliance-only stores all they want but they have to fix the underlying problems first that their customers have, otherwise it's only putting lipstick on a pig. Too many customers have issues with delivery/installation or repairs covered by a protection agreement (that they paid for!). Or, certain appliances won't be in stock or available for weeks on end so they end up going somewhere else.

I have to sort through all of these issues for multiple customers at a time on a daily basis. Delivery people (which are contractors and not Sears employees) are late, rude, clueless, careless, reckless or a combination of these. Repairs take weeks to commence; when the repair finally takes place, sometimes the problem isn't fixed then and there (usually, the parts have not arrived), and the appointment has to be rescheduled. People are taking notice. Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. are picking up more of our share of the pie.

Eddie Lampert has made it very clear through words and actions that he isn't interested in keeping Sears/Kmart brick-and-mortar around but only for the physical real estate. How will that all work out when other retailers are closing stores and reducing their own footprints?

It is true that those of us left at Sears are trying to do the best we can with what we have been given, no one seems to know in our store what will happen next. Has anyone heard about these smaller new appilance stores than Eddie is opening? The first one opened last werk in Colorado I believe.I read about it on line at Sears news. They are suppose to be replacing what was called the big box store of Sears. This is Eddie 's latest plan to save Sears. I guess we will see what happens.

Remember the movie Glenn Miller Story? It was a true story played by a true Amercan hero (James Stewart) ....even tho they were about to die in the wwII war he kept his band playing. They did what they did till the end. That's how our last good 'old one' is at our store and it ain't for eddie the weasel...it's because he has always been that good of a man. And the few of us left will do the same. Amen and God be with us all, He knows our hearts

Just walk out on payday. They will send you one more paycheck which is your vacation pay out, that has to come with in 72 hours. Like I have said before Sears Holdings ( aka Eddie Lambert) doesn't care about you, why should care about him. Don't worry about other companies having issues with you walking out, they all know Sear Holdings sucks. You know the old saying don't let the door hit you on the way out, we'll make sure it does, Life is better on the other side of Sears Holdings Doors!!!!!!

Why would anyone give Sears a two week notice if you are planning on leaving? Sears did not give me a two week notice that I was going to loose my job. I was told on a Friday conference call the first of March that my job was being eliminated in 6 hours after giving them 38 years. Get out while you can. Stock is at $11.13, the lowest I have ever seen it.

You are right about many new managers are hired from outside of the Sears culture and they do not seem able to survive,in my store one store manager came from Walmart the other from Lowes and either one lasted more than a year, then quit on a days notice. We are wondering who will be the next one to try and fit in,as of today,we have one ASM in our store and two softlines MCA leads to run the store. Yesterday was our truck day to put stock away,we had three people working the entire day in HI with no cashier,I sure you can imagine how much got put away. When I left my shift, 15 minutes late, there was one person to cover the entire HI departure until close. Sometimes I just wish they would put Sears out of our misery.

Wow... Your store seems to have been through a lot (and not just change of management). There must be an interesting story behind it all, especially the manager that was escorted out of handcuffs by the police. The store manager that left abruptly probably was very new to Sears and it's way of conducting everyday business. It's a learning curve to say the least, and he or she probably didn't have proper training, a very common problem in this company (computer-based training that everyone skips through anyways isn't that effective). More probable, he or she saw the writing on the wall.

I know that a lot of people don't give two weeks notice anymore and companies often terminate employment immediately upon resignation, but I'd feel as if I would betray my store if I just left all of the sudden. I'm not going to stick around a whole lot longer (the end of the year tops, I have a possible opportunity with Target, so we'll see) but I think I will notify everyone who needs to know way before that point because I know how tough it is to get someone in. It's hard enough to hire and keep hourly associates. It's much more difficult getting an ASM or SGM in, that's for sure. The whole hiring process for those positions take weeks and our store is already skeleton-staffed as it is.

On my drive home today I was thinking about Sears' glory days. Granted I'm only 28 and have only seen the tail end of it all but there is no path of salvation for Sears at this point. I actually cried a little, not because of the possibility of losing my job to or the insurmountable stress I go through as an ASM, but for the fact that another piece of America is about to die and a lot of good people will suffer when it all comes to an end. Sears was such a great American institution, only now it is unrecognizable from its original self and has wasted away. It almost reminds me a terminal cancer patient that lived a happy, fruitful life, only now it's slowly slipping away. Sears has been an important part of American lives up until the last 10-15 years. Times change, yes, but Sears and Kmart aren't really in the game anymore.

There is usually no such thing as a two week notice with store managers, our store manager came in yesterday and said he was giving his notice,he was gone within the hour, just about had time to say good bye to associates, although he had only been with Sears for less than one year. Of our last store managers, two were fired, one taken out of the store in handcuffs, and two others quit on one days notice.
