Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

QC vs Apple. Which is better to work for? Work culture, benefits, etc. Business wise both seem to be going down?

Tablets an Apple idea. Yeah right. Most overrated fad ever worse than Justin Bieber. And relentless profiteering from factory workers in China by engaging with the world's most unscrupulous slave drivers Foxconn. <<

OH, I think you must have been working nights and weekends on the 8960, am I right? am I right? Tablets were 1000x better than ZERO ideas because Qualcomm management is too stupid to think in a creative way. I agree it's also stupid that Apple spends 80% of its engineering resources making devices thinner, but Qualcomm seems to spend 100% of its engineering resources making the CEO fatter ..

Apple is a joke to work for. On orientation day, they would say "we have mentality of startup backed with resources" -- meaning we will make you work like a dog but with no upside. RSU is very good but no other benefit is better than Qcom. If Apple stocks keep falling, people would exit out of Apple in a mass due to over-worked culture. Problem starts at Johny's level. He is a miser, but got 9m himself. Nice try to have your business expense report reimbursed in Apple. Would make you wonder how cheap they can be.

Qualcomm hasn't had a successful new product idea since 1993. Apple had its last new successful idea in 2010 (ipad). However, at both companies the guy who approved the last successful product idea is gone forever (at Qualcomm, gone 7 years, at Apple, gone 5 years).

Don't come to Apple. I did and now I regret it. I worked hard at Q and hated all those vest & rest people, so I jumped ship. But if Q gives me another chance, I'll be back in a snap. I'm now converted and I want to be one of those vest & rest guys and just slave those junior fresh out of college grads.

rumor says Apple will pay 150% overtime wage to junior engineers, plus 100% RSU refresh each year; while QC pays 0% overtime wage and overtime is constantly required throughout the year, and RSU refresh is limited even if stock price is falling like sh-t.

Maybe that's why Apple engineers love to escalate issues to QC during weekends/holidays and QC engineers get f---ed, ha ha ha

Apple. The stock of QC will drop by 95% while the stock of Apple will increase by 5000%.

It depends heavily on which division you work in. Qualcomm has some good pockets to work and some horrible ones also. Same with Apple.

Apple is perhaps slightly better. Don't get me wrong, both will work you to death if you let them, there are @$$holes in charge in both places, and there is the H1B issue at both places. Benefits are about the same--maybe slightly better at Apple w/r/t non-pecuniary and lifestyle issues. Salaries are going to be higher in Silicon Valley, but so is cost of living. Apple is not quite as heavily larded with management. Also, Apple at least appears to have a discrete plan for future growth while QC is trying to figure out just what the IOT will encompass and how they can monetize their little piece of it. Apple definitely has keyed in on design and function that buyers are willing to pay top price for, and also excels at marketing its products--something that has always eluded QC. In the end, that is what will push the value of RSUs from Apple up higher than RSUs at QC.
