Job title can be negotiated with your manager for business cards/linked in etc. However HR categorization of your roles and responsibility is tightly controlled by HR and your biz unit. Good question.

They modified it on orgtree so that you show up as sw architect if you are grade 9 (grade 8 used to be architects also)
A lot of SW Engineers (at Intel) call themselves "Architects" after acheiving a specific grade level.. Typically this is at the Grade 8 and 9 levels, whereby the titles "Staff Design" and "Senior Staff Design" don't sound sexy enough, so the "Architect" BS appears.. Look at most Intel people on Linked In, every other one is either an Architect or Manager of somekind... I laugh out very loud, everytime I see this.. LOL LOL LOL
As a grade 7 at Intel, you would be a SR. Engineer with any other Company. I hope this helps.

13 == Sr. Intel Fellow == Corp. VP
Senior VP is 13+ and doesn't have a technical equivalent.
What grade are corporate VPs, senior VPs, executive VPs, and chairman? Anyone know?
