My experience of BH Geoscience is not good.

I agree, a good comment by 1vjh. Leadership is notable by its absence, and if a strategy actually does exist it has never been communicated.

@HtAl5Ey-1vjh - great comment. Baker seems to be dumping a lot of the geoscience side and focusing on engineering - streamlining for a easier GE takeover.

I think it's safe to say that Baker's attempt to compete with SLB and HAL with respect to reservoir and production modeling has been an abject failure. In typical Baker fashion, we bought a bunch of small companies (GMI, JOA, etc) and lumped them into a giant, disorganized, dysfunctional unit and expected it to evolve and optimize organically. With no leadership nor investment, it stagnated and became a quagmire of internal competing interests. The one exception is JOA, in which Baker invested upwards of $1B after acquisition, and it still remains a disastrous money-pit of uselessness.

It's unfortunate that the senior leadership of Baker has remained largely unchanged since the "merger" failed. If it had changed; as it should; there would be reason to hope that Baker might invest in these areas and make a serious attempt to compete in geoscience. Instead, our glorious leader, and illustrious Avon rep decided to blow $2.5B to buy our own stock and pay down our close-to-zero interest rate debt. Brilliant move, guys! How is the stock price doing since that announcement?

This thread is pathetic. Most Geoscience staff do not have a PhD. As to relative low pay you are also clueless. To gain market share on Schlumberger it takes not only operations engineers and crews but geoscience staff to process and interpret the wireline or LWD data that was acquired. Want to downsize them? Sure and see how many jobs you don't get.

Most of the geoscientists have PhD's because it's next to impossible to get a job without one. This gives them an over-developed sense of their own intelligence and prestige that contrasts to their relatively low pay. Plus they detest engineers and engineers' ability to transform knowledge into something useful and of value.

many persons working in Geoscience have falsified qualifications. If you don't believe I suggest you check. Also need to read PeopleLink, always good for a laugh reading all the lies. Indians are the best for making up false qualifications, and work claims.

I am a LWD operator working worldwide for many different bases. Every time any contact with Geoscience for any reason, has been a disaster. These overstaffed departments are full of ignorant, lazy, overpaid, work-shy, bad characters. Nothing is there fault and will backstabb you with regularity.

Need to downsize considerably.
