Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

Surprise, Surprise, more layoffs coming.

Sadly more layoffs are still coming. The YTD 17,000 layoff number reported by CNN included part of 2015. NOV probably has another 10,000 to 15,000 job cuts still pending for this year and into 2017.

NOV is going to be a much smaller company when the dust finally settles from this downturn. From a peak of $24 Billion (Excluding the spin-off of the Distribution business “DNOW”) to a future of maybe $5 -$6 Billion a year if they are lucky, could be even smaller. A big chunk of the remaining cuts are finally going to start hitting the Houston and global corporate side. SG&A is still too heavy. Too many VPs and Directors reporting to each other doing NO REAL work. This not sustainable for the reduced level of business and gross margin the future holds . Just a bunch of YES MEN/WOMEN kissing each other’s asses at corporate. Clay's family and friends won't be protected for much longer. Getting rid of Fadi Matta was just the beginning. Wait and see what happens next in Rig Technologies.

Yeah but at what cost? Rocky lost Mickey, Adrian, and Apollo along the way. Plus he ended up bankrupt and with less brain function (not that he had a lot to begin with). I am Rocky fan but sometimes the damage caused is too high. NOV will never be trusted again by its once loyal employees.

Eldridge is like Rocky Balboa. Gets destroyed in the fight, yet somehow wins in the end.

If all plants are like Pampa Tx. there are more people in the office than there are producing. How can any company survive with this going on. In Pampa we know all about suck asses to, good to here it's company wide & not just at this plant. Actually it makes me sick!!!!!!

Totally agree. $5 - $6 Billion Is very optimistic. NOV has run out of backlog, where is the revenue going to come from?????. They will be lucky to make $4 - $5 Billion this year. And with no new big orders coming in, you can expect 2017 to be in the $2 -$3 billion range best case scenario. When this downturn does finally end NOV won't start creating new larger revenue until 2018 and beyond. This is going to be a slow recovery. NOV doesn't have the cash reserves to keep so many dead weight executives employed for the next 2 years. Definitely a lot more layoffs are coming.
