I received an email from a friend and he is really concerned about San Diego.. he is saying some project are being cancelled, people searching for new projects and positions... what you guys think ? San Diego will be affected or not ?

Aside from internal transfers from closed sites I don't think a single non Indian candidate has been hired at San Diego by Indian managers. It's an example of extreme racism and discrimination even intra caste discrimination between Indians. This is a blueprint of what happens when Indians are in charge.
I am a former employee from San Diego. I can tell that I tried to be part of firmware team. A director from Germany after receive my resume, asked to an indian manager to interview me. Guess what.. he never interviewed me even is boss asking to. I also tried to talk to him about when he was going to interviewed me for at least 3 times.. nothing..
I really felt a lot of discrimination in San Diego. If you are not indian your chances to move around are minimal. That's my experience there.
I left Intel and moved to a different company and looking for these things in the past, I understand that God reserves what is best for us. I am happy in the company I am working for, I am being extremely valuable and I do not feel any discrimination.

What is the ethnic makeup at San Diego like?
The San Diego location is almost exclusively LTE modem and wireless connectivity (bluetooth/wifi). In fact, many of the Broadcom folks jumped ship there after getting a ridiculous pay increase (some say 2x), and no Broadcom was not underpaying anyone at all at the time.
I'm not sure that was a good or bad decision, because while they might be unemployed at intel, they might now also be unemployed if they stayed at Broadcom. As far as compensation, intel might have increased their pay 2x (if it's true), but if they stayed, they would have gotten a huge cash bonus from the Avago acquisition, in addition to seeing their RSU and ESSP shares go from low 30ies to high 50ies.
In any case, thinks are not looking good for chip engineers in san diego. Qualcomm is actually doing already. They were going to lay off 12,000 people and got through probably half of that...And then people started to quit on their own. The really good people. So now they are hiring. Lol.

Just because the site is mainly an Indian site you assume it will stink. You are such a racist. Without Indians Intel would be nothing!
Senior people in San Diego recently poached from Qualcomm to catch up on 5G still seem to be working for Intel...
