Here I am in my 50's and being offered a fat bonus to retire now or take my chances that I don't get forced out with a smaller plan if not enough people accept. In five more years I would be ready, but right now I'm not. I face a terrible choice. Who is going to hire a technician in his 50's?
I have savings, but its not enough. Not after putting three kids through college.
I get what BK is doing. He can dump my assand hire two more RTG's for what I get paid. But its not as if I stole those raises from Intel. They gave them to me, telling me what a great job I was doing, training RTG's and RCG's and running the experiments, fixing the tools, making the wafers. And now I'm facing the unknown of possibly being kicked to the curb by a company that profits billions.
I work hard, innovate, add value. I don't sit on my laurels. I have three times the experience of everyone on my team.
Well, now when stuff is going wrong with the tools that nobody can figure out, looks like I won't be there to give the answers like I do now.
As I ponder my fate, I'm asked to make a document of all the tricks, tips and BKM's in my brain. Are you kidding me? I already get as much as possible into our PM checklists and SPEC, but good lord, you can't transplant every bit of knowledge in my gray matter into a document or spreadsheet. There are things you know just through intuition or recalling a similar incident a decade ago. I can't put experience in a .DOC and being asked to do so while I agonize over my future is insulting.
