Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Realign

Has management given any thought to realigning tuition costs to be in line with state colleges, universities and community colleges?

Not sure that you understand that the state colleges, universities and community colleges are subsidized for residents. Here in California for example if you are a non-resident (meaning you have not lived consecutively in the state for the last 18 months), you pay a non-resident tuition. For University of California non-resident undergraduate tuition and fees is $38,108 (http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/paying-for-uc/tuition-and-cost/). Comparatively speaking yearly full time Argosy undergraduate tuition and fees is $20,196. If the state would care to subsidize in state that would be great. Otherwise comparing our non-subsidized tuitions, Argosy obviously is a lesser rate. And by the way, state schools have frozen admission to new incoming freshman state residents the last few years and the community colleges have HUGE waiting lists. The state is broke, so no funding to the state schools...assuming students could even meet admission requirements. Get the facts straight before making statements that highlight your lack of knowledge. :)

Good idea. Now faculty can't meet gainful employment numbers either.

If the top dollar execs stop taking bonuses on the restructuring of EDMC, then you will have dollars to go toward internal scholarships so students can afford the education.

First mistake to your question - "has management given any thought"....well friend, my experience is that management at this alleged college does not give a thought to anything except getting students to sign on the dotted line. You really need to realize that before asking any thing.

Democrats are pushing for an end to the 90/10 loophole. Last I checked, there aren't enough Republicans who care anymore. They won't stop it. It'll pass both houses and that's the end of the for profits. I think that's reason enough for the recent bloodletting. Without all that Title IV money, the Vets are out and for profits are finished. Look for padlocked doors and great big empties. The backers can't wait to shut the place down and cash out.

They push private loans on students but they still collect the massive Federal aid loans as profit from taxpayers so they can stay alive with that! We just need the Dept of ED to stop all federal aid to all their schools. Soon enough students will drop out based on the latest news of layoffs and without any students they won't receive any federal aid.

Actually the Art Institutes push more private student loans on students than they do federal loans, at least that was the case when I attended in 2002!

So what you're saying is for the fat cats in the ivory tower to cut their paychecks for the good of the business?

With all these layoffs, you'd think someone would have floated the idea of mandatory pay cuts. I think employees would have taken a 15% pay cut over loosing their jobs.

And yet The Art Institutes rely on Government backed student loans to stay alive.

That would be impossible because those you mentioned are subsidized by state taxpayer money. Privately owned colleges are exempt from receiving government subsidizes.

Are you nuts why would they drop the insane tuition that they charge, they need that money so they can keep ripping off anyone that they can get that will sign a loan for a life of debt with a worthless degree! I wouldn't be surprised if they raised the tuition rates. Besides, students are dropping out and enrollment is down. It's only a matter of time before all schools are closed and EDMC is gone.

Are you completely delusional? EDMC is going under. They won't be "aligning" anything any more. Get with it and get out of there.
