Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Breathe easy for now?

Guess those that survived the Ai layoffs can breathe a little easier for a couple months until we get past the October start.

2uxq- True According to media ACICS does have time to appeal. We're currently in the approval from recommendation from the chief of the education department phase, which will take up to 90 days, if the person approves less than that then the 18 month countdown will begin. During that time EDMC can appeal to the courts, but that in turn will be a waste of time and money for it to try to overturn. Now if EDMC isn't stupid to waste time it should be able to find an accreditation or two, since it had no problems getting part of the schools to something like WASC or others in its branched schools.

I don't really care about ACICS one way or the other, but I'm not sure I agree with those who say ACICS is now dead. According to what I read in the media, ACICS has every right to appeal, and multiple lawsuits could (and probably will) follow. Moreover, a court could rule the move by the Dept of Ed as invalid. And are the Feds, who have already been stung by the scope of the Corinthian trainwreck, really going to force 245 ACICS schools to suddenly scramble to find another accreditor in 18 months?

Yeah... No appeals. ACICS is dead.

Slide out trolls. There will be about 100 appeals of the ACICS decision both to dept of Ed and federal courts. Ai will be around in Oct and after that - but probably not forever. It's going to close if Magmt in Pittsburgh doesn't make serious changes.

The students I've talked to are completely oblivious. They'll stay and we'll all pay: employees, taxpayers, employers, citizens...it's a lose lose.

Students that enroll in career schools don't have the common sense to check out the schools before enrolling. I'll bet 90% of current students have no clue about accreditation let alone know who the accrediting body is.

October??? Seriously? There will be no October, do you actually think after this and the news with ACICS going down the tube that any students would still enroll let alone return to these schools? I bet that more than 80% of current students will be dropped out by July when summer classes begin or at least before summer is over. The ship is going down get out while you can, go to the press tell them what really goes on with EDMC and these schools. Be a part of history by destroying these rip off schools for giving out worthless degrees and stealing Federal Aid from taxpayers for their executive bonuses.
