I am finishing my thesis and was planning on starting at CHV in late summer. They gave me the best offer overall and I was wanting to go to work for a major as I am wanting to focus on exploration research. My other offer is with an independent and the money is almost 15k less than CHV. The obvious question is how risky is the proposition that CHV is going to recover rather than shrink more?

Who uses the term "cunt" to describe another man, particular one who they are obviously jealous of, and they envy for being more successful and earning more, and one who is getting under their skin? I've never heard a grown man do that. It's that a Texas Steers and Queers thing? Is that a gay thing? Strange. Take the job with Chevron... They offer really good salaries and benefits... And you can learn! Honestly, Chevron has plenty of Dilbert moments, But so do most companies... Good Luck!

Chevron is a good company to work for. Take the job if you are offered one. Aside from good pay, they have excellent benefits, great 401k matching program, a pension and annual bonus program. Add it all up, don't consider straight pay only.
Chevron offering 15K more than an Independent- that is unusual! Also exploration budget keeps getting cut in Chevron. I don't see how they will allocate money for exploration research rather than drilling wells! Chevron is not that bad a company to work for as many in this board wants you to believe. However, there will be volatility going forward no matter where you choose to work. Good luck!

More layoffs are likely, but it depends on the business unit. The bulk of the cuts are probably over. As you are well aware, the longer the price stays low, like below $65 -$70, then the slow drip of layoffs will continue. Some independents are in better shape than others. Who can predict the future?
You're not serious, OP. The first giveaway was when you referred to Chevron as CHV. For your information, we are "CVX". Get that straight next time before you try to bullsh!t us again.
