Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

How long has Chevron taken to send out COBRA healthcare package?

I am anxiously checking and waiting to receive the COBRA package to sign up. My wife is undergoing care and we will delay all non-emergency appointments until coverage is back in force. I just wanted to know how long Chevron takes to make the notification to ADP. ADP says companies have 30 days and they take 14 days to send out the package. But they also say most companies notify them in 7-10 days usually. It has already been 14 days for me since June 13. Thanks,

Let me give you ADP COBRA Services' direct phone number in Alpharetta, GA. Please take note in case it helps you get through faster. It's 1-800-383-6931.

Best of luck to my former colleagues.

I called ADP today to see what the holdup on getting my paperwork is. Turns out CVX hasn't even notified them yet so I'm not in the system. I electronically signed off on the severance paperwork 14 days ago. Can't imagine how inefficient CVX is on this. So starting tomorrow am, I have no medical insurance and will have to pay out of pocket and then manually send bills in to collect my money back. Hope we don't have anything serious come up in the next month or longer. ADP person was very knowledgable by the way. We can't blame them. They will turn it around in less than 10 days. Maybe they are the ones using lean sigma. Ha, ha

Word of advice. Pay the 6 months up front. I know of two people that had their coverage stopped because the check got lost????? Then you have to reapply to a "board" to get your coverage back. This takes 2 months. So imo, get rid of the that BS and pay up front. BTW ADP uses Indian tech service call centers for any COBRA coverage issues.

@2pzb, you are do right. Im also still laughing about your first line. I don't know what sent things so out of whack in healthcare costs (suppose it's the free healthcare the illegals and poor folks are getting and the frivolous lawsuits). But something has to be done. Maybe this is where the government should get involved.

Just go to the ER and pretend you are an illegal, they will treat you like you are a PPO.

Sad to read this, but doesn't surprise me. I'm sorry people, healthcare has become a milking operation and a scam. You pay top dollar for care and services you don't control for products that don't work or hurt you later more.

I remember when seeing a doctor was 10 bucks and a shot of penicillin and you were good to go.

When did it get so complicated and expensive.

And it's not just the waiting period to get the cobra package that takes forever. I made my elections online and paid online via my checking account the day I got my cobra package in the mail in the hopes of expediting things and for fear they'd claim they never received it in the mail. It took me THREE WEEKS from the day I paid online until I actually had coverage again. Ridiculous. So about a seven weeks went by from coverage to being covered under cobra. Pray you never have to call ADP, they are beyond awful.

Thanks for replies and advice. 30 days + 14 days = 44 days sounds like the story I was told. I am mostly concerned because they had already screwed up delivery of my severance by sending it to the wrong email address. I had to call and call and email and email to find someone that would respond. Finally told that and package was delivered 1 week late. Afraid of the same on this COBRA stuff. Not willing to just sit until 44 days is sup to find out nobody is doing their job at HRSC. They could not tell me anything specific about my status which is frustrating. However, it seems ADP knows what they are doing.

Luckily I am 100% on retirement healthcare and will go that way. I fee sorry for the people younger with young families and needing healthcare plan. I do have 2 kids in college with 1 a senior and the other a sophomore. We will push through with savings for college.

Best of luck to all.

Aside from the ADP COBRA Services, be sure to call the Chevron HRSC at 1-888-TALK2HR about cancelling any life insurance you don't wish to continue. Failure to do so will result in Past Due bills getting mailed to you within two months, when it's too late. Keep in mind this goes for both the (free) basic Chevron life insurance and the supplemental life insurance that is deducted from your paychecks. You will also need to remember to call the Chevron HRSC and ADP at the beginning of your 6th month of subsidized COBRA to cancel it. Failure to do so will only result in ADP thinking you want to continue your coverage, at the non-subsidized rates. You may get a reminder in the mail, but it's good to know what you need to do in advance.

Before the end of subsidized COBRA, hopefully you've found a new job. If that's not the case, you can check up on ACA Obamacare medical plans. If your projected annual income is low enough, you may be able to receive a federal subsidy to make your premiums affordable. Start getting info at www.healthcare.gov. Good luck.

The first poster is correct inasmuch if your last day was June 13, your Chevron medical was paid up through June 30. All monthly insurance premiums are paid on the 1st of every month. So even if you were an employee for the first half of June and they deducted only half the monthly premium from your paycheck, your coverage is actually in force through the end of the month. For what it's worth, consider the remaining days of the month a gift from Chevron.

Be patient in waiting for the ADP COBRA papers to arrive. When you get them, read carefully and fill out the firms completely. Send them back via US Priority Mail (they provide a delivery confirmation number). It's mailed to a PO Box in Alpharetta, GA, so FedEx or UPS won't work. Make a photocopy of all the pages for your records and always take good notes of dates, times and person's names who you talk to. The ADP Services instructions will inform you of their website where you can set up an online account. This account is updated each night and will save you time when checked nag in the status of your activity with ADP, including receipt of premium payments, etc.

One last word of advise: Submit your check for one or two premium payments along with your forms initially. This will speed things up a great deal. You are allowed to do so. Subsequent premium payments are made to another PO Box in another state.

I am in similar situation. They said it takes Chevron about 30 days to send paperwork to ADP and ADP turns it around in 14. They indicated most companies send it within 10 days but they could not answer me when I asked why it takes Chevron twice as long to get it out. Go figure. So now you know why CVX says you'll get the paper work in 44 days. 30 for CVX and 14 for ADP. Sounds like good lean sigma opportunity for our HR folks. Especially since they knew this massive event was coming so long in advance.

I also was layed off June 13. My HR rep assured me the existing coverage did not expire until the end of June, not right on the 13th (they are monthly premiums paid). However, he did say there would be two to four more weeks (mid-end of July) before ADP gets the forms to you and get new coverage established through COBRA. They would back pay any approved medical expenses you had to pay cash for during the coverage gap. You just got to hope nobody gets into a million dollar car crash with brain surgery during that interim. I've got to wonder if Chevron could have designed a more efficient handover procedure having most layoffs occur way back in April so plenty of time to prepare .
