Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

What might have been, iPhone launched in 2007 and the Tsunami that killed the virtuous cycle and started another

Sorry PSO really BK'd it and BK continued to BK it with IoT and memory, so sad what could have been with this company

"Say if PSO had said yes to the iPhone, what kind of processor would it have been? I don't recall reading whether it would have been atom or arm."

If PSO had said yes it would have been ARM and PTD would have to have completely revamped the way it treated design teams and intel would know have design rules and flows amiable to foundry customers. Currently there is a reason no major customer uses intel process, LOL.

As the previous poster said if intel had all the volume the f42 shell would be full and another several thousand employees working, there would have been no ACT.

PSO decisions is right up there with the idiots that turned down IBM when they can calling for an OS for their PC, changed the course of history for two companies forever,LOL

@1kou

It doesn't matter. It would have kneecapped TSMC and Samsung either way.

About the only thing you need a laptop for is excel, word, powerpoint and you can do that plenty well on a 399 computer, or any computer that was produced in the last 10 years.

Your phone, well you want the latest greatest fashion statement, it you, you use it and take it everywhere. Likely about a billion will be sold this year. ARM will outsell x86 5 to 1 and we aren't even adding the ARM cores in IoT and many other places.

Intel is one and done!!

iPhone's 9th anniversary today.

It turned out that the future of computing is in your pocket. The smartphone will reign for anothe 10-15 years just like the PC.

If it computes, it computes best with ARM.

Yup a virtuous cycle where necessity is the mother of invention. They will ship more volume than intel and this can afford the RD and put huge capacity in place. Intel is in big contraction with x86..

If PSO won the iPhone account, guess what - TSMC and Samsung would be nowhere near as powerful as they are now.

Now these guys ship way more volume than Intel does. Goodbye process lead!
