Last week in SoPac, the STLs had SPLN. They revealed their gawd-awful 3-year master plan, which they swore the STLs to secrecy. Grocery + Whole Body teams are getting combined, and for some low performing stores this is already happening. Specialty is the next team that will get combined into Grocery. Also Bakery + PFDS. The marketers in SoPac have 4-5 stores each and there is a great deal of anger and resentment there. It's not anger and resentment that anyone cares about because marketing will soon be a thing of the past. They are micromanaging all the marketers because regional has to justify their existence. They didn't bat an eye a few weeks ago when a marketer with 26 years in the company abruptly left. The artists formerly known as PBSs are having the same issues. They are being stretched tighter and tighter and when a TMSG leaves the company they are not replacing them. This company is screwed and I don't think they care.

Holy sh-- guys! Thank you all for posting. I just left a month or so ago and am on the vendor side. I am so sorry to hear of all of the sh--atstic ways that "the machine" is treating you and your fellow TMs. I see it in ALL the stores I visit and it makes me feel really sad.
My old store just got rid of their Grocery Buyer and I am sure it is going to be an ATL job from now on. Keep up the fight kids, but don't miss the kindertransport. (Sorry for the hyperbole)
No joking? Nothing that has been reported here is new news.
Buyer positions on non-perishable teams to be eliminated. WFM's investing in technology to make that happen. It's some years out, but coming. Already in the MW region, they're piloting Beauty 2.0--a test to streamline product mixes so it stays uniform--easier to auto-replenish.
Look at the conventional grocery store models like Kroger, Safeway, and albertsons and they all run the exact same way! It was only a matter of time before Wholefoods caught up to them! I've worked for both and always knew that the conventional market ways were going to take over. Wait until they start changing there wage limits and promotions!! Smh....
They just gave us the same news today in the NA region, right before we had to do our quarter end inventory. Real classy you d.....bags. Looks like I'll be searching for a new job tomorrow.
Time for a union?
Those of you WAITING for the next round of layoffs with severance...wake up. They don't have to notify you or pay you severance now that there has been an initial layoff. Research it if you don't believe me. You'll be getting unemployment and that's all.
thank the universe i took the $$ !
Good to see tl busting a sweat over this news.you all drank that kool aid thinking this company was all that and a bag of spirulina coated popcorn.now you see them treating you as expendable..capitalist money behind mackey knows no allegiance just gains.
If you want to stay, start cross training. If you want to leave, leave before other people are fired that may want your spot.
We are a million dollar store and they wanr all the leadership groups to start cross training now. So then in 3 years they are ready to apply for their own position. .. that's just disrespetctful and they are calling it "relevant " to your job.
Gro-Special-Body or GroBodySpecial or GroBodity
Newsflash everyone ... in the future, Whole Foods Market will convert almost completely to the 365 model. Leadership can call this a "different brand" all they want, but it's also an internal test of their ability to run a store with as little labor as possible. It would insane for them to see that a store can be run with only a few TLs, no Marketing TL, no PBS, and only one ASTL and continue to have those positions in existing stores. If 365 does okay a year from now, they will take that setup and expand it to WFM stores that make under $250k a week. If that works, they'll push it to $500k a week. Then $750k a week. And then all stores.
If your position doesn't exist at the 365 store, your days are numbered. Either get out now, or simply develop your Plan B and wait for your severance.
Neither Kroger or Walmart would even want to buy Whole Foods Market---why would they want a failing business model?
To 1fiu: you are delusional if you think you have a future with WFM. Don't waste your time coming up with "awesome" names for the combi departments. I smell a troll here.
yeah all this happening with no severance packages for the leaders who will loose there jobs. whole foods merge with Kroger or Walmart already
OK, I am a WBTL. What I really want to know is what we are going to call a combined GROC-WBOD-SPEC team? With GROC and WBOD combo calling it GroBody sounds good. It has a nice ring to it, don't you think? But with SPEC in there? I am stumped. Folks, we need awesome names for the teams of the future! (And beyond.)
don't forget Front End + Admin and Meat + Seafood, already the case for many but now sooner or later if you're 900k or under all the above changes will be happening
The layoff e-mail John Mackey/Walter Robb sent last year mentioned 'attrition'. What you're describing is just that.
