Just picked up 2 AMD systems. Don't buy Intel. Look at how they treated you by escorting you out with their security after 20 yrs of service. Why support this company?
Bought 2 AMD HP PCs since ISP. Both are great. Will never buy an Intel PC again...
I purchased an AMD Dell today. First AMD processor I've ever owned. And you know what? I don't notice a bit of difference between this Dell and my 2 year old i7.
AMD + your choice of FREE linux OS. Even an old confuser will perform well!
Typical Intel myopic thinking. Why does a mass market user need to update 700m rows in Postgres on their client? You may have the killer app! Go to a startup and make billions!
Even if they did need to do this ridiculous task - Why not do this on a server?
By the way the Apple A9 in the iPhone is just as fast as a Core-M in the same power envelope.
The point is - if everyone needed the full power of a desktop as opposed to a phone, they'd be buying more desktops (or laptops for that matter). The fact that they aren't is a pretty big tell.
OP here- I agree with -pen. For me the need for a REAL computer will continue but only when the existing x86 PC dies..
OP and his updated post, LOL. Now everyone knows why Intel did the layoff and more coming.
The disruption has run full circle, PCs disrupted the world and made Wintel all profitable. Now the smartphone is 1/2 thru the cycle and made Apple/Samsung/TSMC powerful and wealthy. Its has about two more years to run that course and then the next big thing will happen. BTW as clearly as we saw PCs in the late 1980s, as clear as PSO and the great leaders of the world saw the smartphone ( well all but Jobs ), BK and his advisers have the same clue about the next great thing. They have no F**king clue.
Intel will shrink like George in a cold pool and be the laughing stock of the world.
why can't they be evolve, just look around at the employees and management today and compare them to the nimble and efficient companies. BK needs to get rid of another 30K and also revamp the whole cultural.. sorry BK'd is intel!
OP here - very mature - ets... this is the first pc purchased in 10 years btw.. 3 IPAD'S and 4 cell phones. The old HP finally died and was constantly used.. I wanted a small light laptop for travel and other biz uses. IPad and cell phones definitely have their limitations. I figured the 1k retirement award was just the ticket to justify new.
Stick your Dell up your ass
Save it for 10 years, when the next Moore's node is selling.
Nice OP. Hope you enjoy it.
I just updated 700m rows in a postgres DB on my desktop. I invite the mobile fanboys to try that on their $hitty phones.
I buy a new machine when a) the hard drive gets full, b) the accumulated Windows updates, applications and other cramwear overwhelms the boot process or the thing runs slow, c) The laptop screen gets crunched on a flight by the guy in front of me reclining his seat. All these can be fixed but why bother when a new one costs so little. On the road - a tablet or iphone works just fine and I've stopped humping a 7 pound laptop around. No way am i giving Apple $1-2K for a shiny thin silver one.
It's a replacement market now for Intel and besides a few gamers who think they need the fastest, people care more about battery life, screen size and hard drive size than what processor is inside. It's been this way for 5 years and BK is just waking up from a delusional spell to see it. Burger King should sue us for character assassination.
Tell me how many gaming PCs are sold then tell me how many smartphones and tablets are sold.
No wonder Intel is losing - their employees still think PCs are relevant LOL.
Games LOL.
What about the other 4 billion people on earth?
Just donated my old Intel free PC program Dell 8700 last weekend what comes around goes around
Who actually needs a PC anymore?
I guess if you consider gaming to be Candy Crush then you're right. I prefer real games.
LOL, how old was your last laptop, greater than 5 years, okay maybe worth it. If less than 5 years you were stupid and should saving for an IPhone7!
Old guys like you are ones keeping the PC market on life support. Who actually needs a PC anymore? iPad gets the job done for the mass market. Old people and engineers cannot support this market.
As a door stop or paper weight?
Good luck with the sh!tty trackpad and flaky wifi.
by 10 Dells, you can be re-hired back as VP Sales
I just took you out. Purchased a HP Laptop without Intel Inside.
