Smartphones are the biggest IoT device and Intel failed with bloated x86... Opinions?

What is IoT? Everyone is trying to figure it out and it is become the solution looking or a problem.
One vision is a fully connected world of sensors feeding information out to be processed and used realtime.
1) Intel hopes to capture business on the server / big data end with their backoffice stuff. Guess what XEONs are hugely expensive and power inefficient. Sounds like a cold ARMy could do better for cents on the dollar.
2) Intel hopes to capture the communication element, really. They have no experience in super cheap wireless and wifi compared to the many cut throat
3) Intel hopes to capture the appliance APS silicon, really. They couldn't as the OP find a way to do anything in mobile nor tablet without losing billions. The ECHO or aps processor in your frig, washer, garage door opener, thermostate that is wifi or 3/4/5G connect needs to be power efficient beyond belief and sell for a few dollars, like that is the busineess intel can win.

As OP said, IoT is one SJ State graduate's silly PPT foils invented in some late night session with his TA.
Nobody thinks Intel will succeed. We have to promise the stockholders something.

IoT will be built on mobile components - if IoT is really a market at all.
Some of the IoT devices don't actually care too much about cost, power usage or high-end features. They are just looking for a compact PC to use. But then volumes are quite low and they want easy to use platform that. Intel doesn't even have that. I can understand that Intel gets some customers that just want to run their x86 software on a smaller form factor device, and probably Intel will get some of those. But for big volumes / profits it's a distant dream.
