Thread regarding Baker Hughes Inc. layoffs

Can anyone please explain our pricing strategy in U.S. Land drilling?

There is no way we're are turning a profit at these prices, why try to get more work and suffer yet greater losses. RSS being given away, not a cheap tool to run. Even conventional is less than the operating cost. What gives? Are we trying to maximize market share for another takeover?

Keep as many people as we can in those operational units and product lines with the most potential in the next uptick which has slowly started. It will be a long time before we see a major increase in activity short of a political issue disrupting production. Consumption has crept up, the low oil prices are crippling alternative energy. The us economy, while not what it could be, is slowly growing.

Operating units theoretically should be more financially efficient, however there is a hidden payment to Houston HQ which some people term the G&A charge (general and administrative). It is basically a tax that is levied upon operations which directs cash directly to the executive group, making them on paper appear indispensable.

I think to company is particularly poor at estimating operating costs, while executive managment only wants to hear how efficient we are. All this kaizan stupidity, tick the boxes in achieve and competency and in theory we should be lean and mean. Problem is operations tell managment we are meeting targets by masaging the numbers, sales take this as a green light to offer more discount. There you go negative margins. Schlumberger and Hal are judt sitting back and laughing. As long as everyone keeps playing the game like this we will be going nowhere but the the history books.
