Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

PC = Smartphone

Most people don't actually need a desktop or laptop.

The smartphone is eating the wintel machines.

The smartphone does a lot of stuff better.

See @IInRMSg

The most personal computer is the one you have with you all of the time, always connected in your pocket.

@axj

A simple peripheral dock solves these problems. You should be able to drive a large monitor and keyboard. There is no major technical roadblock there.

I'd agree except I have never, ever been able to use that little thumb keyboard. No wonder weird abbreviations and staccato sentences are the norm these days. i guess I'm old fashioned, but I like a big screen (old age) and a keyboard and mouse for my big, fat fingers. That said, I agree most people don't need much more than a smartphone. I also got a tablet but hardly ever use it. I still don't know what the fuss was about with that "we have to sell 40B tablets" campaign. Were we hoping we could distract investors away from the fact that we weren't in the phones people wanted, and were unlikely ever to be?
