Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Art institute of Pittsburgh Campus

When I toured the Art Institute of Pittsburgh 2 years ago the building / campus and the staff / faculty was a large part of my decision to enroll here. Fast forward to this last layoff and the reality that everything i was presented with will not be there when I graduate really frustrates me beyond words. How can you have a fashion program chaired after the last layoff with someone that only has a background in Interior design ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

We get no real answers other than the most vague "everything is fine and you have no reason to complain or worry about how you spent your money" responses about the future of the school which by the time i graduate, I will have acquired $75k + in debt for faculty that don't exist anymore and a campus that will not exist when i leave. This wasn't presented when my admissions rep talked about the 90+ years the Art institute has been around...... I thought i was enrolling in a real college.

You cant deny our concern when other Ai schools and an ENTIRE school brand in Brown Mackie will not exist in a few years.

Just be honest with me

The announcement is coming soon. Can't wait until President George collects unemployment. What a scum bag of a president he has been at AIP. The "DEAN" isn't any better. I got out of that place when I was shocked at what a joke the culinary classes were. DO NOT eat in their restaurant. Dirty kitchen, a laughable storeroom run by a clueless and arrogant grad of the program, and the food tastes and looks TERRIBLE. The kitchens are dirty the "teachers" were lazy or so broke they didn't have life choices or or grads of the program - all you need to know. Anyone with an ounce of life experience could see the fraud. Sad thing is that they prey on the stupid. Like Trump culture - fear (you NEED a degree) and intimidation. The instructors spend more time on facebook or gossiping than teaching. Horrible school needs to be shut down.

GET OUT OF AI NO MATTER WHAT THE SCHOOL/EDMC TELLS YOU! Look into other schools and see what will transfer and what will not. GET OUT OF THERE! And...KEEP ALL EMAILS, PAPERWORK, TEXTS, ETC!!!!! Get an OFFICIAL transcript and an unofficial one. Look at the unofficial one to make sure what you took is on there with the correct grade. Keep the official one sealed to give to your new school. I can't stress enough that if you are able to transfer credits AI will take their own sweet time to get the paperwork assembled and sent. I used to work at a teach out campus and there wasn't enough staff to do it. One hand doesn't know what the other is doing, trust me!

They told the prisoners of Auschwitz it was only a shower. So don't believe everything you're told.

Be smart. Transfer to a reputable school while you still can, and have your degree mean something. The last thing you want is to go on an interview and have the employer read "Art Institute" and laugh at you! I already have former grads telling me that now.

If the Art Institute isn't a joke now, wait until you graduate to see what an embarrassment it will be.

There isn't a quality instructor or chair at Aip anymore. Anyone with skill has options and a new job - not with edmc. Recent grads and losers left.

Funny. The old chair never actually taught any classes. So, not sure it's that big of loss. The faculty were the ones who did all the work and put on the fashion show and such. They are still there. The ID chair has forgotten more about design than the previous fashion chair ever knew.

What is the source for the new AIP construction? EDMC is doing this but not telling students and staff? I say bullshit. I hear from a very very solid source that AIP is folding. They are not moving to the Strip District location. Culinary is in teach out and IDT over. They have minimal faculty and administration. Students will go online for teachout.

Construction for the new AIP is underway as we speak.

The AIP school lease is up Spring 2017. Are they telling students there will be an on ground school past that date?
