Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Pos checklist/IT closing checklist

This is how it was done at Kmart. Did Sears do the same checklist? Those of you that went through a Sears NOT Kmart checklist?

Anyone who went through a store closing, ever did the IT checklist of what equipment had to be shipped back or disposed/recycled? I did mine with the help of two other employees, do you know what sheet I am talking about? Mind you I closed my store in January 2014 I did the checklist.

Does anyone that went through liquidation know what checklist I am referring to? Or are RMU's no longer shipped back after the liquidation sale?

To answer your question the IBM SurePos registeres were rolled out pre bankruptcy starting in 2001/2002 before chapter 11 was filed. There was an IBM article about the buying. So technically these registers are between 14 & 15 years old from a hardware standpoint. the registers I am referring to were rolled out at Kmart.

The registers are worth nothing because they are all around 15-20 years old or so. They can barely run the software that Sears has on them now without being slow and locking up.

The physical hardware's overall reliability has been impressive but it is too outdated to be useful. There's nothing worth saving.

When our store recently closed the stockroom lead had over a dozen pallets laid out to facilitate all the different locations that equipment was to be shipped to. Nothing was destroyed locally at our store. The person in charge of our liquidation was a "by the book" type, so there were never any exceptions made in the dispensing of our equipment.

Now at all of the liquidation sales SHC is doing now at Kmart. The liquidator is selling the registers and if they do not sell send them to Genco for recycling. Hey, if we did not have to send back our registers I would have kept 1 or 2 for IT training/rebuild. But ours had to be sent back.

I am shocked they did not strip them for the local stores that remain open, like giving them, spare keyboards/printers. Or are some of the employees that do the shutdown not tech savvy?

The list each store gets is different, based on the store/region. For example, some send registers back, others destroy them. Some stores also send RMUs and various equipment to other stores nearby, while others send to corporate.

Since you know about the list, is there a way to contact you by email? Since everyone else is confused about what we are talking about?, It seems you must have an IT background also.

Does anyone know where I could get a copy of the Sears & Kmart equipment checklists? I was looking for something on the list that was marked, "Destroy" at Kmart. If someone that is going through a current liquidation at a Kmart can get their hands on the list. I would be appreciated.

When I went through the liquidation at Kmart

Anything that was marked "Destroy" the liquidator let me go through and keep what I wanted to. After I picked through the old equipment I wanted. I took care of the disposal before we vacated.

I found some of the ancient pin pads that no longer worked and were to be destroyed I kept a few and gave them to my cousin for her kids to play with.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I have gone through Sears and Kmart closings. Both stores have equipment check sheets. Both stores had check sheets that they went through destroyed some equipment and some equipment got sent back.

I was saying is at the store I helped close, I was given a checklist for what equipment had to be put on a palet shrink wrapped and sent back to the warehouse. Anything that was labeled on the checklist "Dispose" it was the stores responsibility to take care of and dispose of. Prior to vacating the building.

Now this was at a Kmart. We had to ship back our printer back, our RMUs/Handhelds, ect.

I was wondering if anyone that went through a store closing with Sears, had to do some sort of equipment checklist. Like did you guys have to send back your handhelds and registers like our store did?

Does this make sense?

I'm not understanding the question. Are you asking if Sears will return, destroy or recycle their equipment? I would assume so.
