Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

What about Advanced Services? Untouchables?

I do not see Advanced Services mentioned anywhere. Does that mean AS is untouchable? I fail to understand Cisco - keep slashing Engineering, discontinue the product lines, kill the innovation but keep the Services arm untouched. Do they want to turn Cisco into a Services company?

AS will get decimated - unless you are fluent in Swedish.

Look at your 10 closest co-workers. By end of next week, one of them will be gone.

I'm in AS & we're having entire projects delayed & cancelled in addition to people that have been "strongly encouraged" to find another role in the company before the end of August.

@INE6LQQ-azx: I have seen AS folks stand by for over 6 months in anticipation of project kick off with a large service provider.. Not just one or two but 15+ AS Engineers idle twitching thumbs ... We as Engineering wondered who and how these guys are getting paid? Eventually it turned out that AS has taken $3+ Million hit .. All those AS folks are still employed with Cisco. So what you said is not entirely true.

Take a good long look at IBM, past present and future. That is what Cisco is becoming.

Now..... I challenge you to find someone there who wouldn't pull their chute and get the hell out of there given the FIRST good opportunity. A once great company, now a total sh---show.

Yeah, and what about that sales people always playing with channel partners and those juicy product discounts/benefits going home with a few of those tax dollars every Q and the many other perks of fiscal fraud, never in LR lists... ooops, may have said too much...

I disagree with you. I think you need to understand how AS operates. Every person in AS has to have billable hours. So if he/she is spending time on any project which is not paid that guy how much ever good he is doing, will be fired immediately after 2 to maximum of 3 weeks in AS. So AS team members even at engineer level are extremely focused and billable. So that is the reason AS does not get impacted. In Engineering we don't submit the billable hours, so its more about the overall project is assured. That is why the rewards are also more in AS compared to Engineering. Simple formula more risk more reward. And frankly speaking I don't want to be tensed every week about working on some billable opportunity all the time. And to build relation with account teams, sometimes poor chap ends up working on free projects thinking in future something will materialize.
