Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Let's do this

I think Cisco needs an engineering GSX to help drive innovation and cross pollinate ideas. Our conference will be a better use of OPEX.

The Holiday Inn at Burlingame by SFO would be convenient because it's by airport, has good Asian and Indian cuisine nearby plus there are lots of conference space for white boards and places to hack. We leave our shoes at door.

We know Cisvo sales wish all engineers report to sales organization so they can enslave us like monkeys banging in lab on keyboards. But we are smarter. We are engineers.

To prove point, we could gather, share new ideas for products like hybrid cloud router/switching SDN+security social IOT platform (think next gen ASR+Nexus). We have contest for create new code loads to impregnate markets. Winner or winners could get pay raise and 100s of RSUs!

I think this will work and we could take one week to create new products because we can scrum and be agile without manager and sales or marketing pukes making bother to us. We should kick off northern tiger team to discuss after LR.

Some years ago there was a famous company (Sun) spending OPEX for a internal global event - Customer Engineering Conference (CEC). Was all about sharing best practices - from engineers for engineers - always having the Customer requirements in mind. Well, also Sun was a sinking ship, but CEC definitely with better ROI then GSX.

At our engineering GSX, we will also need add session on how engineers to better train sales people how to sell. They are not yet smart enough to explain new products- especially software. Systems engineering and the PSS need help too but first they need to stop play Pokemon and emailing us questions to save them. We no longer can scale. That is why cisco growth is like slithering snake.

Engineers can learn current way of sales people and better teach them the technical outcomes of our rich platforms to help make business outcomes come out for customers. We can train them better than GSX- again, better use of OPEX for the company. We are one Cisco and its up to engineer to make sales people better sellers so we can end LRs ASAP. I think the top managers in the c-sweet will like this action plan. If we do good job, we can get connect recognition and raise!

For such training, we need to set aside OPEX for engineers to take Caltrain to the j buildings where we will hold our in-depth training. We need to keep sales (and the marketing) away from our new remodeled building spaces! Because we now have free snack like turkey jerky and fruits, we do not want sales or marketing to know otherwise they squat in our conference rooms and eat all our food like locus instead of meeting with customers and taking orders.

We need to move fast!

The only problem with this is that it is a f---ing stupid idea. (No offense)

Sales does not 'give' engineering pay raises, awards, rewards or Stock (RSUs). Sales is in the business of enriching themselves. That's what sales is and probably why you are not in sales.

Sales people are typically money motivated, exploit their relationships for financial gain and have a very loose ethical framework. In other words, they are money hungry weasels.

Engineers are usually systems or technology focused, have a smaller group of good friends and have stronger ethical convictions. In other words, they are loner idealists.

Sales people use engineers to their purposes. Engineers are widgets that go in a spreadsheet.

If you want to make more money at Cisco, go into sales (leave your shoes and your ethics at the door)

laughing ... brilliant :-)

You should ghost-write the blogs of our engineering "leaders".
