For Current Employees Or Contractors- Has Cisco put a freeze on all new contractors?

ALL: Thank you for all of this information regarding Cisco. I truly appreciate it as its hard to find an accurate position.

Back in July, I was hired as an independent contractor to support Cisco. I was scheduled to start August 1st. The Friday before August 1st, I received a call from my recruiting agency telling me that my start date had been revoked and that any revised start date was "unknown" until further notice. I have been waiting in-limbo ever since.

As I'm discovering the frequent Re-Orgs and current layoff culture mentioned on this board, I wanted to ask current employees, are you aware of any freeze on new or pending contractors? Also, for current Cisco contractors, how much unpaid downtime have you accrued within the past 1-3 years?

Thank you all so much for any honest feedback.

I am a contractor and mine was renewed till end of Oct. There are others in the team whose contracts are renewed till end of Aug.

My whole team (7 contractors) including myself were 'let go' as of the end of this month. They did give us notice. I'll have to admit. I've had a few lulls in the past. This one feels different.

This is not good the contractor in my team does more than our full time workers. I would hire our contractor on the spot if I was the hiring manager.

It is not an across the board ban on contractors. Some of my reports are contractors and they have been renewed. One clarification to a reply, with a few very rare exceptions contracts are done quarter to quarter. All suppliers in fieldglass have a master agreement that allows for a 30 day termination or less. So even if the contract is renewed for the quarter Cisco can terminate the contract for any reason by giving the appropriate notice.

I was told all contractors were being let go too, but I haven't see it happen. We lost the one on my team last week, but other teams still have many contractors working with them.

This is what a close source told me. Most (if not all) contractors have been let go a couple weeks ago... BUT cisco is renewing some contractors on a month to month basis (used to be every qtr).

One of my team member is a private contractor and this tenure was renewed in August, so my guess is it is very specific to the org you are getting in to.
