Several of my intern peers have been told that although their performance was stellar, their manager is unable to bring them on in their current organization fulltime due to budget cuts. This summer the interns were paid significantly less per hour than last year & there have been sudden questionable management changes in the intern program. Last year I was so excited to be a part of the Cisco family but now it looks like I'll be exploring my options. I'm young & motivated and ready to start my career, not run it into a brick wall.

Interns: you need to understand that, since at least 2007, Cisco has had layoffs every 2 years or more. My own area is affected almost every layoff, but we still get at least one intern every year (why, I have no idea, since we never hire anyone full time). My advice: vote with your feet. If you have a better opportunity at FB or GOOG, then go for it. Otherwise, if all you can get is an internship at Cisco, you could do much worse. Appreciate the salary, even if it is lower than what some will report they got the year before. Appreciate the fact that you have a cush summer job, which pays well and doesn't require you to flip a burger or clean the bathrooms.
So young, so many opportunities... So, why Cisco FFS?
We had several interns in our team last year and all they could say was how awesome their fellow students who were at Facebook or Googles were having such a good time while Cisco was just dull
