Cultural and racial favoritism in hiring, promotions, and in layoffs

The sad decline of a once-great company due to a rapidly growing monoculture and insidious cultural-cronyism.

Listen we know who you are: Get a Job, from ANYONE, who is willing to hire you. It can be in Texas or CA or any remote corner of the country. Sitting behind computer and claiming to be fired due to favoritism, will not convince anyone.

Just get a job, and spend your time wisely to help the society. You are part of the society- society is not part of you.

Redeem your actions ( that you did in cisco), and maybe your friends and neighbors might respect you.

There seems to be a lot of India bashing here. The fact is that India produces a lot of highly skilled people at low rates. Rates will no doubt creep up but for now it just makes sense to recruit highly skilled people in cheap locations.

I'm afraid that western countries think they have a monopoly on being the most highly educated and culturally greatest! Fact is that way of thinking is pretty small minded.

If you read a lot of the posts here they are very US orientated. The fact is that Cisco is larger than just the US. US employees are hugely paid compared to other nationalities ... $48k for a grade 4? And you wonder why Cisco goes offshore when the workforce are often better educated , cheaper and work harder?

Take employees in Poland. The vast majority speak 3 or more languages, have masters and are far far cheaper than the US.

The fact is that Cisco will do what is best for its shareholders and that is not the same as doing what is best for employees...especially ones in high cost locations can can be easily replaced by cheaper, better educated staff elsewhere.

Do not confuse racism with nationalism.

The issue here is not about race, it is about economics. Indian people are members of a country called india. India has widespread poverty and poor working conditions. As a result, India's economy produces labor costs that are far below that of the United States.

Cisco, as a corporation, wisely chooses to lower their labor cost wherever they can. It is a monumental myth to think of Cisco as an American company. 95% of cisco's wealth is outside of the US.

Nepotism is a different issue as well. Indian people, as a culture (not race) tend to hire family members. This is not racism. The practice does happen to be illegal in America where Equal Opportunity laws exist.

The problem you have with Cisco hiring Indians is industry-wide. As a rule, Indian workers are very cheap. (Just like China manufacturing and Mexican farm laborers)

Cisco is a corporation, not a social movement. It is run by greed and imperialism. If it were cheaper to hire a child slave in the Congo, Cisco would do it.

It's only racism if it isn't true and a group is unfairly being targeted. Not the case here. The Indian Mafia gets all they deserve here. It will be the death of the company.

Here is the good news; today it's Indians, tomorrow it will be someone else. Indians will start wanting Teslas, 60" flat screen TVs and elaborate vacations. Then Cisco will find the next low bidder to prey on. Polish, Croats, Russians, Costa Ricans....

Enjoy that H1B and good living while ya can. Your time will come.

these accusations are coming from Fired management-people, who got Legitimately Fired by cisco HR.

Now they are not getting any job, because they have no degree. So they sit on all websites, and lobby for this "favoritism" as cause of their-firing, because they cant come to terms, that they were fired. This guy was on Brad Reese website as well.

Lets stick with the topic - layoffs. Ciscos cultural issues cannot be fixed here. OP we are all aware of the tension, and the last thing we need right now is more division and distractions. Vote, call your representative, do someting - yet, here, we cannot fix it

Indians will at least do the job ( even if it is poorly)... If cisco hires a person without any skills or a degree , that even hooters doesnt hire.. then- this deal will be worst of the two choices.

You can choose , your personal benefit ( of hiring people without skills) or something that benefits cisco business ( indians cheap labor, but will get the job done).

Yes. Cisco pays a lot for engineers and way to much for sales. But some of the older guys can still code.
