Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

1:1 Scheduled on the 18th for ME!

I have a meeting scheduled on the 18th too. Somewhat surprised because of my strong history with the company. It's actually embarrassing and upsetting. I'm truly traumatized and very sad. Nevertheless, that is what is scheduled to happen and I must accept it.

There appear to be quite a few folks with experience being laid off. Are there any tips of what to do and not to do? Any questions that I should ask? Thank you for your comments and hints.

Last year Cisco was very humane about it. Cisco gave me a month to transfer my cell phone, a month to find a job in Cisco (but who are we kidding), and a month to come into the office (use printer, kept laptop, etc.). Cisco also provided placement services which was great as I haven't worked on my resume since 2000. The placement company was helpful in helping me understand how to edit my resume for my level. I hate the annual summer layoff as its very distracting but I will say Cisco treated me well during the layoff. BTW - they did away with rankings to make it easier. Lets face it - they got rid of the fat a while back. Just cutting bone now. But the execs have great stock packages (based on inflated profitability!). Best of luck.

In the past 1x1s are for LRs. Survivors get a group meeting with manager.

Who told you that? What are they gonna talk about in the 1v1? The weather?

I was told that managers are supposed to schedule 1:1's with ALL employees ( not just the impacted folks). I guess so people don't know their fate until D-Day. Who knows? Seems highly inefficient.

Hi. I too am a top performer in my team (had exceptional, X grading, won awards etc) and have the dreaded 1:1 meeting on Thursday 18 Aug. I believe it's a short call (15 mins) outlining your package and general information on the next steps. You have 30 days to find another job within Cisco - if that is what your intention is and if you can get an offer which you accept within 45 days of the notice date, you will just be moved. HR is briefing the managers on the LR script. It is very traumatizing and its difficult to accept initially. This is an re-org regardless of your personal abilities or capabilities. Just wrong place wrong time. Just start working on your next steps - updating CV, talking to people, check out LinkedIn etc
