If you do get laid off, just remember it's all politics and all subjective. I had an "X" performance review for years in a row, then after a restructuring started to get "Strong" performance reviews even though I asked for and took in more and did everything well, with the excuse being, "Well, you're new to this job." The reality at Cisco is that even at the grade 11/12 level, you're a pawn in a political game of whatever VP you're reporting to. If the buttocks are kissed and the wheels greased up through your chain of command or if you have one of the few directors who cares about your "visibility" then you're safe. If you've just inherited a new VP or changed jobs, you might be impacted because someone holds a grudge against your manager or director. I'd like to think that such a big company could have a meritocracy, but they don't. In fact it's quite the opposite. I was lucky I left voluntarily, but I believe the LR will turn out to be a blessing in disguise for most.

This is for sure especially in Bangalore. Glad I quit a few years back.
Some of my blue badge co-workers seem to be favors or relatives. These so called engineers would not last in a startup environment where your performance sticks out like a sore thumb. Please managers or directors don't keep people based on friendships this is not high school. Keep workers that make your work look good. Wishful thinking I know.
Couldn't agree more.
