Nike Layoffs 2016 - Workforce Reduction in Effect

Warning all ETWs!!!

Nike has now, August 2016, started to layoff ETWs (contractors) left and right at Nike World Headquarters (WHQ). It's a disaster. Polish your resume and your LinkedIn profile right now, this is not a joke. My contract was terminated in a single day. Extremely disappointed.

Nike will send you an email that has the word "Mandatory Meeting" in the subject line. The meeting will also take place the same day and in the body of the email, it'll say to "bring your laptop for the presentation".

If you receive this email, it means you're on the chopping block and your contract will end that same day. So, consider this your warning. It already happened to me and I expected more from Nike.

During the meeting, they will also ask you to fill out 2 sheets of paper. The first one has to do with the laptop, badge and company issued belongings. The second paper is the "OFF BOARDING POLICY". Don't sign anything and don't fill out anything. Simply walk out. You will also be escorted out of the building by a full time employee or manager.

Just watching out for my ETW friends who are still at Nike. Also, your manager will communicate to the rest of the team that your contact has simply expired, instead of saying the truth that your contact was terminated and that there's a workforce reduction in effect.

Good luck to all and wishing you the best.

As an ETW recruiter for supploer to Nike. I have lost 1 one contractor in the last year due to budget cuts. No one else. Im sorry you had a bad experience but Nike is still hiring and keeping etws (w2). I would 95% of my consultants have wondrful things to say about the work and the company. Your experience while unfortunate is not that vast majority of etw experiences

@IVb2Nut I'm really sorry your contract was terminated. Being let go from a contract is never easy and clearly this has hit you hard. in fairness however, I think it is important for you and anyone reading this to keep in mind that the TW in ETW stands for Temporary Worker. When you are a contingent worker at a large company, your role is by definition temporary. Oftentimes, as the needs of the business and the focus of the work changes, so do the lengths of the assignments of ETWs. There are many factors at play when ETW arrangements change and while it is never easy to be on the receiving end of that change, it's best not to make any assumptions about the company's motivations or intentions. Any company that engages a contingent workforce will have shifts in how it uses that workforce as the business evolves. Best wishes to you as you seek out new opportunities!

@Anonymous Journalist, the information is 100% reliable. I'm the one who wrote it. It was my experience and my purpose is to help other professionals avoid Nike's empty promises and misleading practices.
