Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

IDF one big yawn and everything said tells me things are going to get worse and more layoffs are certain, LOL

" Moore's Law is alive and well" BK... really why than are there two more designs coming on 14nm and 10nm is slipping. If nothing beats the value of scaling than power/performance competitive advantage would be huge for intel to pull in 10nm not slip it. I suspect 10nm is in big trouble. Scaling is getting harder and harder, if Intel density is best, means process margin is the worst and likely yields are worse. Intel uses the same tools as everyone else, with less margin means less yield... bad times ahead

VR, IoT etc. etc... when has Intel every produced leading edge battery operated non x86 that wasn't a PC. Look at tablets, look at phones, they failed at 65nm, 45nm, 32nm, 22nm, and 14nm, for 5 generations they knew power/performance and graphics were important yet everytime their designs s---ed compared to ARM. It took Apple ONE generation on inferior technology to best intel in the low power space. Sorry Murthy and the Qualcomm adds can't change the fact that intel can't do mobile/low power

Modems... lets get real here the apple modem was put into design and fabbed at TSMC. Intel has yet to every produce any competitive mobile offering in its own silicon.. Nothing I saw says it will be different.

ARM / 10nm... too little to late. ARM is already working and has IP up at Samsung, GF, and TSMC on 10nm and 7nm. The only reason LG or any other company is pricing that is giveway. You think Intel is charging the same pricing as TSMC... get real. How much does Intel get for a leading edge 14nm CPU, they will have to give away prices on 10nm. To think the early 10nm volume will be given to LG instead of valuable intel x86 server that sells for 1000 of dollars or CPUs that sell for hundreds versus 10s of dollars to LG means the whole cost structure needs to change. Intel factories don't know how to do multiple products especially 10 dollar and less on 10nm. You are kidding... BTW for foundry you sell wafers not yield. Imagine FSM focused on cost and NOT yield.. what a concept for the Prius factories.

Look only at Tablets, phones, and Mica to predict how VR hardware will go.

Look only at the 10nm schedule and lack of products till 2018 to understand that Intel will be under huge pressure to further reduce cost.

Not any discussion about how they can keep the PC business even flat.. Intel can't survive making 10-20 dollar chips, they'd need to layoff another 20-30K to be competitive.

By 2018 INTEL will split in two just like AMD. Murth will run the Product x86 business and Stacy will get TMG / Manufacturing. It will be an ugly three years from TMG gets to about 40K people as that is what they need to be to make 10nm products at 10 bucks...

Good luck TMG minions

Haha. Good info looking forward, OP! The people working in the factories are soooo blind to this inevitability that they have simply frozen their careers. Little do they know that their value in the outside world is significantly deteriorating the longer they stay with Intel. They will eventually suffer the consequences. Of course, the only ones that will remain are the schmuck managers that have contributed to the problem.
