Oh I get, most of you claiming that you have no work are just dead weight. Those of you attacking another simply because they have work find that they are useless and feel jealous. Oh god - "collaboration" is one of the most used Verizon bullshit corporate taglines. Along with "vetting out", "it is what it is", "show value" and "do less with more" are all part of the vocabulary a Verizon spinmaster cool aide drinker speaks.
I think collaboration translates into lets get together and gossip.

@1bly...I'm fdv and don't know what is is like to wfh. I also commute to downtown Manhattan everyday. Don't know what it means to work in IT either. I sit near my upper management and need to always deliver on deadlines. Would not want to know what work from home means. I enjoy seeing my team members and collaborating to meet deadlines. I have over 25 years with wireline and don't know what it means to not be busy or work with great management people. I enjoy what I do and yes I started from union and worked my way up. It is not impossible but what some are happy with is not the same for others. I always say that if people are not happy with their jobs, they can always find another. You only get one life, find your passion and move on and chuck this as a life experience.
@fdv - Is so typical of "some" management people AKA IT ppl. They may be on-site at their deak (or remotely "WORKING" wink, wink from home ) 10 - 12 hours per day but WTF are they actually doing for the bottom VZ $$ line? Some things they ADD to their 9 10 hrs per day:
Commuting time; browsing , paying bills, reading news on the web; going shopping at lunchtime, working out at GYM in Basking Ridge or at a nearby gym during work time. , going to Doctor/Dentist appointments and not charging it as paid time off or a personal / vacation day, attending kid's school games , staying logged onto SameTime and not immediately answering a ping probably because they are not even there., staying on SameTime all day and night to "prove they are working" , logging on at 5 or 6 AM and going back to bed until 8 or 9 AM. and still entering ALL their time AWAKE in the time reporting system, coming in very early (ie. 5 A.M..(nobody else is there, not even the Manager , who is probably remotely located in another state).and sleep at desk in order to leave at 1pm (no Lunch) or 2PM ..and on and on... Put Cameras on ALL PCs/Laptops with hotlinks to the 2nd/3rd levels managers PC monitors and watch how fast the 9-10 plus hours go down

It is obvious that the ones who are full of s*it are the ones who complain the loudest and feel that they add no value. Company needs to cut the whole lot of you and bring in capable people to make the business better. I bet most of you are wireless. I agree, rif all of you. The party of seeing the money come in without needing to lift a finger has ended. Those of us on wireline have plenty to do. Remember that when you go make a call on your little cellie, guess who got that call to complete? Idiot!

Best part of my day is when I can sneak off to the bathroom. It is the only place I'm left alone. If I'm lucky, I'll score the luxury suite (handicap stall) and play on my phone for 10 minutes. Living the dream!
Most of the company's finance and IT folks are engaged in busy work that really adds little value.

The bottom line is that most management generate absolutely zero revenue for the company. Hours upon hours of pretending to be busy. Verizon has too many chiefs and not enough indians. Well, come to think of it, too many chiefs and too many indians. Until Verizon finally accepts the fact that they have created a toxic work environment and starts to treat its employees like human beings, the workforce will continue to underperform.
I love going to work at the basking ridge Verizon country club. Gym and long lunches are the best way for the day to go by fast. And don't forget I leave before 5pm each day.

Extremely busy and I am management and do not have time to reflect on rif or slacking; goes against the grain. If at most people are inputting is 15 minutes of work then I think it goes beyond worry about rifs and just verifies that the company needs to cut the individuals. I work 9 to 10 hours a day and at times without taking lunch. I lose track of time with the amount of work I need to accomplish to meet deadlines. People have to show value and importance not sit by the water cooler thinking about why they are passed up on promotions or projects. Make themselves seem valuable to the business and have people pursuing you as an individual. The idea is to get people to feel that they need you and not the other way around.
