Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Q3 Aero Town Hall - Bob Smith (Aero CTO): "Let them eat cake"

In a time where employers are falling over themselves to cater to their employees and attract top talent, Honeywell is apparently going in the other direction by treating their employees like crap. The aero leadership team is so out of touch with their employees and attracting/retaining talent I'm surprised the shareholders aren't freaking out more.

When asked about how they are going to retain young talent in this environment, he said something like "go work for a company that make an app or designs baby clothes and tell me how that feels, come work for honeywell and you get to work on airplanes. We can get away with treating our employees like crap because they get excited about planes and outer space"

Even Apple is moving away from this holier than thou attitude and taking steps to attract and retain talent. But not good ol' Bobby and the rest of the doofus' on the ALT.

He also said Q3 has started out slow, so get ready for another kick in the junk with more 'cost savings' coming up. Seriously, at some point someone needs to start asking the question how much we can gut our future.

Nest makes a better thermostat, Honeywell sues Nest. Now Honeywell makes a thermostat like Nest. This is the Honeywell way of innovation.

They definitely are interested in North American employees leaving willingly. I believe what they may not understand is how difficult life will be without the seasoned experience. Then again, when is the last time you saw Honeywell actually develop breakthrough technology? It is instead: "How can we make marginal changes in the product and charge a lot more for them?" That incremental type of thinking doesn't require the same type of capable engineers and physicists that breakthrough thinking does.

When all the dust settles, Honeywell will get what they pay for: Not much

Management is not just out of touch in Aero, Specialty Materials has exponentially become worse over the past 4 years. The experienced employees are either on auto pilot just buying their time until retirement or doing whatever it takes to make themselves look good, especially at the expense of their fellow workers.

The new young guns have to either learn to play the games the Leadership Team (more like new policy team) likes to play or prepare to be thrown into the Honeywell meat grinder. Get out if you are lucky enough, there are still a lot of companies out there that know the definitions of team work, respect and leadership actually mean.

This is the classic " You should be thankful that you still have a job" BS, but that's no excuse to treat your employees like that. The leadership team are going to realize that aerospace is not the only game in town, and by then it will be too late.

Maybe they want expensive US & Canada employees to leave. Treating employees poorly is one method of encouraging them to leave on their own.

Management all across Aero is out of touch with the associates and has lost focus on why we are here.
